Default Quick B18a question

I'm a noob to tihs board so be easy on me. I did search for this before I posted. Anyhow heres my question. I will be purchasing a b18a1 engine to swap in my EG. I was wondering with a good tune what kind of whp can a totally stock block handle. I've seen people on HT with b18b's making 300whp on stock internals. The motor I'm buying has 105k miles on it. Assuming the motor is in good condition will it be able to handle 300ish whp? I guess my main question is are the internals in the b18a any different from the b18b (bottom end).

Thanks
Alex

the b18a/b's have the same internals as far as i know.
with a good tune 300whp is a very achievable goal depending on your turbo setup.

Just so I know what is the max these motors can handle?

the b18 is usually safe at around 8psi... so probably good for just under 300 like maybe 280 if you went to 10psi=300 no problem

I did a similar search for a couple weeks on here about b18c1's and what they can handle on stock internals......the real answer is it completely depends. I've heard that they can handle up to 300whp with a good tune but we're definitely not talking about stock reliability. If you want your motor to last, set it to 250 whp with a good tune.

To give you an idea of what I'm doing, I'm aiming for 300whp on my b18c1 but I plan on replacing all internals AND re-sleeving the block. I want stock reliability. I'm sure I'll be able to dial it in higher if I plan on tracking it or playing around on the street but for a DD, i think 300whp is plenty in a civic, especially before a LSD is thrown into the equation.

I agree about losing reilability but usually with any turbo setup you do. I'm pushing 206whp on a stock d series right now. Yes its my DD but I don't need 100% of Honda relability. I want it to last yes but it doens't mean it has to last forever. So with that said 300whp is reasonable?

Do more research. It's not the turbo at all that makes you lose reliability, it's the amount of HP your engine produces.

The reason that NA cars usually last longer is because someone HAS to improve the internals in an NA car to make it faster. Someone can just slap on a turbo w/o improving the internals.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to say what everyone said to me (and i hated it when they did) and say it depends. Again, I know what my b18c1 is capable of and going off of that, i could say yes, it's possible.

Post in the forced induction forum, you'll get more people with b18a's in there, or maybe in the integra forum. The amount of people using b18a's are few these days.

Here's the problem when you're going that high on stock internals....most people on here don't keep tabs on reliability. Anything past 10k is reliable to a lot of people on here. You're saying you don't want 100% Honda reliability and that's understandable but with shooting for 300whp you'd better make sure you have a good tuner. You could last 60k, you could last 5k, depending on the state of the motor

Thanks for the input man. Makes sense what you say. I have an awesome tuner where I live and as I said the motor i'm buying has 105k miles on it and ran strong. Wish me luck.

You should do more than just go off what someone said about your motor and do a compression/leakdown testing on it.

8 psi means nothing. What size turbo? There is a big difference between 8psi on a t25 and 8 psi on a gt42r. Look at it as how much power the motor can handle. The b18 motor starts to become unreliable after 300whp. It might take 0 psi, it may take 2002093932203830x10^19282338 psi.
