Thanks man, but my bike is no motox-er.
I believe thumpertalk.com also is a good resource.

just throw out the questions and usually the correct people will answer.
there are some people here who are far more focused on the dirt than the street (including me) so i dont think you will have a problem getting some answers.

I don't have any experience really, I just learned this past weekend, and I loved it, so I want to buy something to learn on basically. It doesn't have to be anything amazing....

Just to learn how to ride in the dirt? On MX tracks? Nothing wrong with starting small - a 125 or 250 two-stroke can be real fast in the right hands. A 250 four-stroke will be a bit slower than the 250, but for learning it should be fine. And most can be had for less than $3k.

how big of a person are you?
if you are a relatively small person you could possibly find a newer 150 4 stroke. would be a good learner if you are a smaller individual. otherwise a 125 2 stroke or a 250 4 stroke would be fine. they are everywhere and you should be able to name your price.

Go with a 250 four stroke, great trail bike and four strokes are easy to learn on. A two stroke is fun, but you always have to be on them hard to be in the powerband and they seem to be unforgiving.
Also buy used always, unless you are going to be seriously racing dirtbikes, buy them used they are way to much brand new.

well if you arent going to race i would get like a yamaha TTR or something. you dont need a fully strung race bike unless you are going to be entering some events.
yeah im a little 130 lb girl hah. I was told by my friend, who raced motocross, to get a 100 or maybe 125. The one i learned on belonged to a girl, and it was a four stroke 100....
Also, where would I look for one? Used is fine, obviously..... Ebay?

i would search craigslist.
you could also go to a local motorcycle shop and pick up an issue of cyclenews or go to cyclenews.com and look in their classifieds.

yea a 100 4 stroke would be the equivalent of a 65.
i would seriously look into finding a ttr 125. i will tug your little *** around pretty well. and once you get used to it you can easily sell it and get something a little more aggressive. TTRs are all around good bikes.
EDIT: nice booty

I'm a honda fan myself. I would reccomend the CRF150F. It is however a kickstart only up unitl the 06 model year. I have one as a play bike and it has been nothing but reliable. The power is not overwhelming but there is still enough to have fun.
Buying a bike on eBay can be a great deal or a horrible one.
If you have a local track where the riders hang out, find out who has a bike for sale. Most likely, other people will know the person selling the bike, and can advise you whether the bike is a POS or in good shape.

This is great advice, but I will admit that I bought an 06 CRF 450 sight unseen from ebay and have never been happier with a motorcycle. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think it was a great deal. $4000 for an 06 with less than 10 hrs and the pristine plastics to prove it.

Nice! I, too, bought a bike off eBay sight unseen. That's how I ended up with my F3. It was a joke bid since the starting bid was so low, I figured there was no way in hell I'd win.
One week later, I owned an F3 from Texas.
But, recently, I've had a few eBay deals turn sour. I'm almost to the point of never visiting that evil place again, but I'm addicted...

I don't know if you've noticed, but I kinda know my way around dirtbikes a little. There are a few more indicators that the bike was almost never ridden. Like the same shitty factory tires with almost the whole ***** in tact. Forks are not chipped up at all due to being roosted. Wear clip on the forks shows basically nothing. Super fat factory brake pads front and rear. All replaceable parts, yes. Did the guy go out and replace all those things to make the bike look new to sell it, I seriously doubt it considering the price of a new set of forks. I've been in the game long enough to recognize a bike that's been through the ringer and one that hasn't.
