i have a 01 GSR, i want to get it boosted but i dont want to spend way too much $$$. i only want around 8 PSI, i can spend around 2 g's but it would be geat if it could be for less...anyone kno where i can get a decent kit for around that much? or know places to get cheap parts so i can piece it together myself...
You should check on EGAY, they have tons of those cheap turbo kits. As far as their reiliability is concerned, they are so-so. Just keep in mind you get what you pay for.
Good luck with your purchase

I dont think the words "cheap" and "turbo" should be in the same sentence. Do your homework and get quality parts. You will be sorry if you skimp on a kit now and then end up having to pay more money in the long run because things break. If you dont have the money for quality parts right now, wait a little bit until you have more money saved up. You wont be happy with a crappy turbo kit.
try the market place?? or even craigslist. i came across some guy selling a full greddy turbo kit for $650, but i didn't have the cash on me because he needed to sell it that night.
and i found an article on a home-made turbo kit. basically it was about piecing together a whole kit buying piece by piece. and it roughly came out to about $800 or something like that.

Agreed
Cheap, Reliable, Turbo
Pick two
That said, have you looked into SC options? I know a guy selling a rebuit JRSC for $1250. That gives you enough cash left over for a tune and maybe a LSD.

I just pieced together my own kit, it cost 2100 including tuning. I did get an Ebay turbo but everything else i got was legit, wastegate, intercooler, manifold, downpipe, etc. I used dsm injectors and tuned with crome so that saved some money there. The turbo i got from ebay is holding up really well. I put an oil restrictor on it and have put 10000 miles on it so far wit absolutely no problems or shaft play. I guess you just get lucky sometimes.... But piecing together ur own kit is much cheaper and I got most of the named brand stuff from ebay. Ebay is my friend
dude ask ppl around town like people that no how to tune most of them get parts for less because they no people higher up.im gettin a turbonetics t3/t4 for 900$ with instal and tune on my 93 Ls brand new just look around.
WOW.. no one here even mentions 8 PSI MEANS NOTHING.
8 psi on a tiny stock volvo turbo vS a deisel 18 wheeler turbo on 10psi is about 300whp.
STOP SAYING IT BASED ON PSI.
Use WHP as your variable in which to decide on your build. THAT's going to decide on the appropriate fuel system components, engine durability needed, etc.

let me tell you from my experince.. I did the same thing you are doing, asking H-tech, friends and tuners, "ebay or not?" when it came down to the last descion, I had to look at my income.. the question was what can I afford? I eventually got a kit from ssautochrome.com that was complete... the saying "you get what you pay for" can be interpreted in many ways... I payed $660 shipped to my front door... i ordered the twisted ramhorn kit, everything looked fine for my first set-up... put the kit on, 1week later i was on the dyno with a bone stock GSR with 300,000miles making 340hp @12lbs. the motor didnt last long lol before i started getting symptoms of blow-by(boost-controller creeping bad!!!). should have had a catch can to reduce some cranckcase ventilation especially with those miles.. even with a hurt motor it was pulling like it never had blow by(cracked ringland).. my tuner was pleased and shocked at the outcome of the kit.. i eventually took the motor out and built a ls block, JE pistons eagle rod, moroso oil pan, with the same kit still installed... 1st and only mishap out of the kit was a blown turbo seal, reason being my so called exspensive boost controller was creeping up to 16lbs :0... so i went and bought a so called better one, it stopped the creeping...
so in all
$660 turbo kit(cheap)
$75ecu
$220 hondata
$400 tuning
$220 750cc injectors used
$40 turbo seals and still happy(fast)
I choose 2 fast and cheap..

also i was at work one day and a guy pulled up in a bad *** integra, boosted with a nice exspensive kit(not going to put the brand out, because i dont want any problems, because i have no first hand exsperience with it) on it and it sounded great, he made some good power it was a stock ls with 310hp.. id say likee 4 months later i saw the car at a hardware store, so i got out and looked at it again to admire it again.. guy was very nice and i asked him is it still pulling? he said he took his kit off because maintainace was to much his turbo blew 2 seals, he spent the sameprice i did to reebuild it and it started smoking again, so he eventually bought a brand new one again and it did the same thing. now he hasa type r swap in it... so with that said exspensive parts exspire to, maybe just not as fast.. just have extra money aside for maintainence...
do not buy cheap.. friend bought one off ebay lasted about a week then the manifold broke. i welded it back together. then it broke around my welds. a week later the wastegate fell off. and i dont mean just the wastegate. the mount fell off the header. so on and so forth. get a cast manifold. buy a good turbo and piping is fairly cheap. in the long run your saving money.. trust me
im speaking from experience i bought a cheap kit thinkin i would hang with the big boys and my **** blew up on the third run. so lesson learned for 2k u can get some name 'brand parts " Cheap isn't fast Fast isn't Cheap"
To everyone else, including the guy replied to above, do you geniuses no realize this thread is from 06.
