Default shifter hitting exhaust

i just put a new header on my car, and besides a bad gasket between the header and cat, it went ok. the only thing is this, it fit really really tight and now when i shift the bottom of the shifter linkage rubs/clanks the exhaust. anyone know a way to fix this, besides getting a new header and getting it lower. maybe a different shifter, or some way to seperate it?

is it the heatshield thats hitting it? it was the heatshield for me, i removed it and it was good after that.
other wise you could try to modify the hangers to hang the ehxaust a little lower.

well, the thing that makes the exhaust high enough that the shifter hits it, is the header, it bolts up to the cat higher up then the 4-1 i had before. i had to take the heat shield off to bolt the 2 sides together.

the shifter should be right above the cat, so it should be hitting it, remove the heatshield and you should be ok

Well on my integra, i found out that if you use one rubber bushing to hold the cat-back, it lowers it enough where it doesnt scratch a lot, but lets you drive with ease....

i was reading up on about this subject a few days ago so i knew what i was getting myself into, before i went off and bought my short shifter. and the thing that i hear a lot of people were doing was going and getting tyoe-r shift linkage and shifter, they said that you get a better feeling shift, and it doesn't hit anything.

you know how the mid pipe has two rubber bushings on each side? all he did was take one off, so it's just hanging by one.
