Default Planning Exaust -- Header Back

Hey guys,

I'm working on planning what to do with my exaust system on the 1994 Civic DX hatch that I recently got -- it's a pretty much stock D15 motor. To get it out of the way up front I can't stand extremely loud exaust, especially with the 4-cylinder sound. So... here goes:

1) Header -- Megan Racing on e-bay, seems to be the least expensive header with positive reviews. Not looking to spend alot and mainly want it to look good.

2) High Flow Cat -- How are the e-bay models?

3) Piping -- Can a muffler shop usually do mandrel bending? I don't want to constrict the exaust unnecessarily.

4) Muffler -- Can I get a stock muffler from a new Si civic to fit my car? I want something that dampens sound (not straight through) that is still a relatively high performance model without spending a TON of cash. If there are other suggestions I am more than open to them.

I haven't done much performance work in the past, and really have never upgraded an exaust. So pardon me if I'm missing something. I did some searching around on the forum but want to really confirm my plans before starting anything.

your plans sound pretty good, but just make sure all the ebay items are high quality and the sellers have good feedback. and for your other question yes you can have another cars stock muffler fitted to your car if you have a muffler shop weld a few hangers and pipe for you.

You don't want it to sound like a 4 cylinder?

What are you expecting, people sure as hell aren't going to mistake your civic for a viper.

I think you misunderstood me. I really don't care for loud exaust much at all, but I *especially* dislike loud exaust on a 4 cylinder motor since the sound is pretty annoying, IMO. I do realize it won't ever sound like a viper so that is why I am asking about a more silent solution to minimize the annoying sound while still providing the most gains possible.

Thanks Pat!

A similar solution to having a new Si muffler, is what I did. I took a stock muffler, cut off the piping and then cut out the holes to 2 1/2 inches, and welded new 2 1/2 inch piping in and out of it. Looks good, sounds even better. A muffler shop might be able to do it for you... Just a suggestion.
