Can DC2 tail lights be opened up?? (Taking the lense cover off)
Hello all, I am wanting to to tint my Dc2 Tail lights. But I would like to tint them from the inside for a cleaner look. I know that you can stick the headlights in the oven and open them up, but can you do the same to the tail lights. First hand knowledge would be great> TIA
you can do the oven thing w/ the rear tail lights but its extremely easy to expletive it up. if u do end up doing it, do it as slooowly as you can (pulling the outer plastic from the housing).
since the bitch is off might as well make em into JDM style tails (if you have 94-97 tail lights)
resealing is a diff story

wouldn't it be hard to tint them from the inside? i thought the surface isn't flat on the inside? maybe i'm wrong.
but in terms of opening them up, don't throw them in the oven, use a heat gun. it's easier to know when to pull the plastic pieces apart because you can feel the plastic melting. use a good pair of gloves while you're doing it too. and when you're ready to seal them up, just melt the assembly like you did when you took it apart, but when it's all together, then make sure you have some liquid silicon to seal it up so you don't get any fogging or leaking.

I don't know how hard it is going to be to tint the inside, I searched the topic but didn't find anything, and I want to tint the tails cuz I think it will look good with my black teg. I really dont want to tint the outside because it never looks oem, and rarely turns out the way I would like. just thought I would try an alternative to tinting the outside

You can't tint the inside with a film, you would have to use a spray can. The inside has the prismatic surface that spreads out the light from the bulbs.
Those who said it can be opened up with heat, are you sure about that? Have you done it before? I tried using heat to open my front bumper lenses, but they seem to be held together with a hard epoxy, and not a flexible sealant like the headlights. I would have had to cut the bumper lenses apart with a Dremel.
I'm thinking the taillights are the same way.

I ran a bead of silicone along the top edge of my taillight lenses. Water was getting in through there and flooding my trunk, but it's all good now.
