Hey everyone, looks like a really cool forum here. I just bought a 99 ls the other day and am pretty pumped about it. I'm wanting to tint very soon. My friend does tinting and I was wondering what I should get done.

I was thinking 35% on the windsheild, and 20 all around.

He thinks 35% on the winshield, 20 on sides, and 5 on the back.

Is 5% on the back too dark? Would I be able to see? And which scheme would look tighter? Thanks for your help in advance.

 

i would go with 20, 5 will be very dark

 

i think it looks stupid with different shades of tint. IMO, stick with one.

i think 35% would look good. personally, if i were to get my windows done, i would go with something like 50% on my car, but that is just me.

my vote goes for 20% on ALL windows in your case.

 

None I hate the tint that came on mine there's nothing worse than rolling down the windows to back up at night. If you're going to do it though keep it on the lighter side.

I have this on all my windows but the windshield and it looks nice and even.

in most places tinting the entire front windshield is illegal. i know it is in PA. but you can get that banner thing, though.

 

15% front sides, 5% rear sides and back window. Nothing on the windshield. Completely illegal, but it is nice to hear "Well, I'm going to let you off with a warning for the speeding, but here's a fix it ticket for the tint.". As long as you give them a chance to touch the pen to the paper they're happy, and if it doesn't increase my insurance I'm happy.

Also, instead of tinting the windshield, you can always get an aftermarket windshield with the blue/black fade tint already in it. I asked for one when I needed mine replaced, and couldn't be happier with it.

Do 20% all the way around, don't tint the windsheild.

 

looks like you your going for a dark look, so i suggest 20% all around. dont go 5% thats too dark. oh yeah, dont do the windshielld!!

 

35% is awesome Check your local laws but 35% you should be able to get away for all around even if illegal.

As for the windshield, although illegal, you might be able to get away with 55%.

Make sure the tint is 1 piece for the hatch and windshield and not 2 pieces.

Also in the hatch, the dot matrix areas probably will be "cloudy". Decide what you want to do in that area

no tint on the windshield, that is ghey. i have 20% tint on sides and rear though. i gotta open my window at night though. haha. hard to see

 

here in california you can get cited for having tint on the front side windows as well as the windshield... the law says you can't have ANY tint on them at all. its pretty rare for you to get cited for it, but if they feel like it, and its that time of the month, they can. i got pulled over having tint on the front side windows and had to remove it... was a pain in the ***, but a few razor blades and a bunch of goof-off later i got it all off.

it really pisses me off because you see people with all their windows tinted all over the place, and any shop will do it for you no questions asked, yet its still against the law.

 

front windshield is good (very light of course) UV protection to an extent That's the one advantage about tint in general i would think

I got pulled over at 4 at night by a cop in Rancho Cucamonga. I was pissed, so I said why did you pull me over? He said because my (my cousin's car) windows were tinted and proceded to do a drunk test with his finger. After a little more harassment, he let us drive off. I would love it if cops like this took jobs in South Central LA and harassed fools at 4 at night, since it seems he really wants to "make a difference".

I had this happen to me in Hollywood on Sunset Blvd...And I told him the same thing that you mentioned about get a job in South Central and making a differece, he made me get out of my car and poped my hood, and then gave me a soberity test.... GAY COP who have nothing better to do

 

Thanks for the opinions guys. I ended up doing 20% all around. I didn't do the windsheild though. My friend didn't have time to cut the front because the computer won't do it (b/c it's illegal), but I don't think I'm gonna end up doing it. I got a 20% strip to go over the top of the windsheild....that way all the tint will match.

It's not as dark as I imagined it though, I have the tan interior (I'm sure you know what I'm talking about here) and that's not making it look as dark as I'd like. Looks much better w/ tint though....I'll post some pics as soon as I get a chance to take em'.

 

35 on the windshield and 20 the rest of the way around. That's close to what I have and it's what I will have in the future. I'm rocking 35 on driver passenger and windshield and 20 in the back. It looks sweet.
