about using other wiring harness on CRX si
Hi, I am gathering parts for my obd1 setup. I was just wondering if instead of using an obd0-obd1 conversion harness, would it be better to use a full engine harness from a 92-95 civic ex ?
I know that the engine harness will be expensive, But I can get a mint one for less than 100 on a junkjard that my friend works on.......
Im gona be using d16z6 (head, distributor, p28, IM and maybe TB)

i used a jumper harness with NO problems. no check engine light, no problems, all good. got it off ebay, nearly mint condition. im running a jdm b16a in a crx si tho.
cool, But im trying to see if I can use the 92-95 engine harness...... Mine is bad, in some areas is broken and some plugs are missing........
If you want to run the OBD1 harness you can but you will need to convert the entire car interior harness and engine harness, probably need to swap plugs from your old harness...its been done but its a lot of work, thats why people use the jumper harnesses since its pretty much a plug and play application
in order to use that engine harness you would need to change all of the wiring under the dash. its not worth it you must use whatever harness you have then make a jumper harness if it was just as easy as getting a engine harness jumper harness's wouldnt be as popular as they are now go to rywire and spend the 190 bucks and plug and play oh yeah you will need a p28 and a 4 wire o2 too
Incase you didn't know you can run vtec properly on OBD0 setup with a chipped PM6 using the A/C wire for the vtec signal and turbo edit or BRE...check out PGMFI.org
OBD1 is a little better but my opinion is why do more work than needed...but if you already have OBD1 stuff then might be cheaper but usually staying OBD0 is cheaper...just my opinion

i think going obd1 is alot better it opens your swap horizons in the future i would go to rywire and get everything from them including the p28 chipped for whatever your doing

Well depends where you live, cuz yesterday I whent to the junkjard and I got a virgin 5spd p28 for 50 bucks... I mean you cant beat that price............. anywhere online.....
I also got a mint obd1 distributor from a 92-95 ex for another 50.... cant beat it either.....
I think im just gona get the obd0-obd1 harness and get some vtec solenoid and o2 sensor plugs and call it a day..........

true, thats one of my main reasons why Im doing an obd1 conversion...... If I ever whant to go b18 vtec, I will have most of the components.....

Yea you got some good deals there, I started with a 91 Si and I got a B18b swap that was already in 90 civic hatch so I had all OBD0 parts so staying OBD0 was prety easy and am now running a chipped pm6 for my turbo setup...I am considering doing the whole chassis harness swap to my other CRX since i am stripping the car down for a color seithc paint job and pretty much plan to replace ever nut and bolt and do a decent restore to it

what is the point of swapping the underdash harness? i payed 190 bucks plus a ecu and a 02 when i got everything in the mail i had it hooked up and the engine running in under 30 minutes it seems like it a waste of time to swap the chassie harness i just dont get it

thats true for some people...... There is no point on swaping underdash harness, thats why Im gona stay with my crx underdash harness. I asked because I forgot about underdash harness lool.....
so you paid 190 for the obd0-obd1 harness, ecu and O2 sensor ?????????????

lol i wish i bought the ecu jumper and a vtec subharness with the plugs for o2 sensor i bought a chipped p28 with po8 maps to run my d15b all in all my obd1 conversion cost me like 400 bucks but i have plans for a b series swap soon so in my opinion it was worth it. so in the future i can get the ecu chipped to run whatever motor i want ya know

Its the other way of doing the OBD1 conversion the old school way and its still cheaper...I could get the ECU harness and all the other goodies from the junkyard for around $50, its a lot more work but technically speaking it would be the proper way...the same goes for OBD0 harness swaps if you wanted to convert fro DPFI to MPFI you could swap over the complete harness...but now-a-days thee are more convenient wasy to go about and do these conversions, both ways work, ones easy and more expensive and ones cheap but more work...neither is the right or worng way just different methods to acheive the same out come

cool
This is what I have so far:
p28: $50
obd1 distributor: $50
mint d16z6 head with IM: $80
total $180
What I plan to get:
obd0-obd1 harness: $95 shipped from jdmshit
4 wire sensor and vtec plugs (from junkjard)
So I think I will have my obd1 setup for less than $400 (not including gaskets and other stuff)

yeah, this will be my setup for my 89 crx si:
1. d16a6 stock block, pistons, crank, but cleaned new bearings and balanced
2. d16z6 head with p28 5spd ecu (will be milled a little porting and poolish )
3. crx si 5spd transmission
4. zex 59300 cam
5. A/C cuz Puerto Rico has a very hot weather
6. obd1 conversion
this might be a little slow but its for an all day drive

you dont live in orlando? hell even orlando is hot with the compression you will have you should have more zip than a full z6 at least your going obd1 i think it makes a big difference
I live in orlando, but im going to Puerto Rico.... Well not shure if im staying here and bring my baby from PR
