Default RSX automatic hard shifting problem

My brother has a 2002 rsx automatic. It has 80k miles so warranty period is done. Well he hasnt drove the car in 2 weeks and all of the suddent the shifter gets really hard moving it up and down.

It doesnt stay where its suppose to stay in drive, its alittle up. And there is alot of ressistance moving it to Park, and moving it from tip-tronic to drive.

Any ideas, some shop said it was a fucked up tranny and wanned $1700 to replace. I was like expletive that, tranny runs fine, its just that the lever is hard to switch.

dearle said it be $80 bucks to inspect, so im just trying to seek an alternative, if worst comed to worst i'll just have to take it to the dealer

if you're gonna take it to the dealer take some KY jelly with you becuase you're gonna get *** raped.

check the ATF. (automatic transmission fluid). That would cause it to not go into gear smooth n ****. gl bro hope you get it worked out

tranny shifts fine, just that the shifter is hard to move around. Im thinking it has to do with the cable?

you mean hard to move like
from auto mode to tip mode?

maybe something is in the center console, i'd take it apart and check around for something in the way.

Also.. when he's backing up does he wait for full stops before putting it into gear?
does he apply the parking brake THEN shift it into park on inclines? things like that?

If you've EVER owned an auto and parked on a hill in a honda/acura you'll know what i'm talking about, sounds like someone smashes a hammer against your trans

check these ( i know its a TL/TSX forum BUT might have similar fixes )

http://tl.acurazine.com/forums....html

Taken from that link

Ok...P1706 means that the tranny fails to shift other than 2nd-4th gears and lock-up clutch does not engage. The possible causes are either:

-disconnected A/T gear position switch connector
-open in A/T gear position switch wire
-faulty A/T gear position switch

IMO, take it to a tranny shop and see what the problem really is. It does sound like it's a bad tranny computer. Our '90 Accord had the same problem but no codes because there weren't OBDII computers. There were no first gear nor 4th gear. The problem was the tranny computer and the replacement was $300.

i'm in my office now but maybe you can find the plug and replace it , if its that
