Hello there,

For the past two weeks, my father and I have been building an LSVTEC for his project CR-X. ( Build thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1763358 )

Finally, we got it running yesterday.

Then, I get a phone call last night saying that when the car arrived home, it started making a "clicking" noise from the main relay area.

Now, we hear the "clunk" noise as the CEL goes off when the key is turned 'on.'

BUT! When we go to start the car, it starts up and sounds fine for about 1-2 seconds, then it starts to sputter and die, going along with the incessant clicking of the relay.

I am in the process of checking all the grounds, especially the thermostat housing one which gives home to pretty much every ground.

Am I wasting my time? Is my problem the main relay itself?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Bump for an answer to a very discouraging problem...

 

i would try to replace the realy itself first. its a quick and easy solution. try that first and let us know how it goes

 

Relay itself works perfectly.

I'm thinking it may be a really bad vacuum leak, causing it to almost stall out, then catch itself.

 

a vac leak would make it rev higher, not stall.

are you getting a CEL? was it dyno tuned? or just running a basemap?

 

No CEL's.

No tuning yet, haven't had a chance to put the wideband on her.

It's weird though...

We had this issue initially, then it randomly went away yesterday, and then randomly came back last night.

 

sounds like a tuning problem. a basemap is just someones best guess at what your car needs. id seriously get that thing on a dyno or at the very least get a wbo2 on there and make sure your fuel is ok.

what cams are you running again? cam gear setting?

 

UGR Spec S2-3's.

Skunk2 Stage 3's, pretty much.

Cam gears at 0, 0.

It's just funnny that it ran perfectly yesterday.

When you give it throttle, the surging continues even.

sounds like main relay to me- i had this make to me, car would start and then stutter n die i swapped a new main relay PROBLEM FIX

Yes, sorry I didn't update this thread.

It turned out to be a problem with the ROM editor I was using.

My tuner sent me a basemap that was created in BRE version 1.3 or something.

I, on the other hand, have the lastest BRE release. I openned it up, and made a quick change with the Knock sensor, and burned the .BIN.

I guess there was some cross-compatibility issues between versions of BRE that cuased the issue.

The problem was resolved by writing a new basemap .BIN in the latest release version of BRE, and burning a new chip.

Everything is good now.
