Default code 8, TDC sensor...

Ok,. so I know Im throwing this code. And Im assuming my timing is off. Now, with my timing light, how can I adjust the timing? Simply by rotating the distributor? facing the cap, twisting it to the left is advancing it? and to the right is retarding it right? correct?

its been a while since i checked the timing in my car but the engine will "pep-up" as you advance it and sputter down as you retard it.

ok, but did I get it right? counter clockwise to advance, and clockwise to retard? Im not sure what my timing is set at right now. it runs, but it runs horrible. what else could it be? and, is that how I change my timing settings? there really isnt that much room for adjustment really if you ask me. it seems there should be other ways to adjust.

I would check the timing with your timing light first to see where you are. the marks should be on the flywheel on the H22. As i said before it has been a while but i think you are correct, you will know immediately if you are wrong. and yes ignition timing is done by moving the distributor.

Make sure you have the service connector jumped(same one used to display cel's on obd1's) when you adjust the timing.

Also I honestly dont know much about this code, i dont deal with them that much (yet). Hopefully the timing will help your problem.

can I view these marks through that little access hole(the hole where the block meets the tranny??

I don't know..... i guess it couldn't hurt to try a new ignition module, before getting a new distributor. you may as well get a new cap and rotor too. Oh, and get a genuine Honda module, I've had aftermarket bite me in the *** before, genuine all the way.

if it were the ignition module, wouldnt my car not run?

I wish I had some local friends with ludes, so I can just try their distributors to see how they work.

i just dont know why it would go bad all of a sudden. here is the story, driving one day, going into a turn, car dies. i coast through the intersection(luckily i didnt get hit). well i tried cranking it, doesnt start. I pop the hood, and find my dizzt had fallen off, but 1 bolt remained in the hole. so i put it back on, bolt it on, tighten it up, and drive it back home. see if I am throwing any more codes(other than my code 23, knock sensor) and throwing the code 8. i cranked the engine with the dizzy off the car. thats why I think my timing is off.

Honda Distributors are "keyed" i believe they can only go on one way, and if it doesn't work just flip it 180 and try again. sorry i dont have any more info, plus i've been having computer problems so i haven't been able to get on the Internet. good luck hope this still helps.

Good point, but I don't think that's gonna work because when he jumps it,
it's just gonna show the code 8. If there are no cel's, then the CEL with just
stay on. Plus the code is probably gonna tell the computer to retard his
ignition which will make the timing jump all over the place when he tries
to read it with a gun. That's what happened when I had a Knock Sensor code.
