Default manual transmission drivability issues! HELP!

ok so heres the deal i have a 1990 civic dx and my tranny is making grinding/scrathy bearing noises when letting off the gas mostly in 1st and 2nd, quiets down in 3rd a little, and barely noticeable in 4th and 5th... the grinding noises dissappear when i depress the clutch (cable), and it follows the pattern of the engine/tranny rocking when load is applied or released. when load is released (letting off the gas, the grindy scratchy noise occurs, and when i gas it again goes away) Also im not sure if its related or not, but i think my release bearing is making noise ( steady scratchy noise when clutch is engaged even in neutral).

could my mounts (exsessive play) be screwing up the bearings with all the rocking or is it just cause from old age of the tranny. just wondering if anyone has experience this, and if so, what parts in my tranny most likely need replacing. and are they easy to replace?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

i heard from someone else that the input shaft bearing could be a possibility, is this an expensive part, and is it easily accesable after removing the tranny? also i cant seem to find a diagram on the service manuals for the EF's ( from honda-hookup.com) those are for the crx's, and it doesnt if it show it on that manual...

if that link is for a hydro trans, trust me, it won't be any different.

the part is around $18 bucks. and the rubber seal that goes under is like $5

wow thanks for the great link... seems like a pretty big job though... but another question is, is the back-up light switch a good hole to fill up your tranny with?

i put 2.5 L of GM synchromesh with friction modifier and another 0.25 L of lucas oil treatment.. did absolutely nothing for the grinding noise when letting off the gas... how much longer do you think my tranny has before she goes... also i remember seeing some cv shaft lube sprayed underneath my car around the inner boot. is that another sign that my tranny is going???

it could be tommorow, it could be two months from now, there's no telling.
I'd take care of it asap though.

I think it's time to scrap your POS though
I heard there was an EF meeting at Standard Autowreckers!
