Default GSR with jdm b16a just bought the car

I pick this car up for a good price and have been driving it for about 3 days now and it seems like it makes a knocking noise when i get up into vtec... really really bad at 7,200 or so any ideas. I dont think its the exhuast knocking because its not doing it any other time?

according to you

different strokes for different folks

now back to the issue of the knocking at elevated rpms... i would say get it a valve adjustment and see if that helps any? then if that doesn't do you any good i would maybe look into pulling the valve cover off and seeing if you find anything out of the ordinary. good luck.

I think the reason that your gsr has the b16 is because the previous owner drove the b18c to ****, AND he probably still drove the new b16 swapped into it the same way. Make sure the timing and everything is correct first. Consider a tune up as well

Owner before me used spray and thats how the b18c1 went out... I was at the track that day, he is a friend of mine so i know How much he bet it. And I didnt pay **** for the car. And for the dick that was giving me **** for the jdm b16 in the gsr its 2 hp and like 10tq less ... really not that big of a deal. anyways im going to do a poor mans R and get a gsr block and throw the b16 head on it since it flows better then a stock gsr. Thanks for the input ... im going to pull the head off and see whats there.

actually it doesn't flow better...infact, you lose compression when you put that head on a gsr block..
Save your money, for the amount of money you'll spend on a block thats fully assembled you could probably beef up that b16a a pretty good bit..do some more research in what u wanna do and how deep your pockets go.

Are you serious..
with the amount of money he's goin to spend to find a full 1.8 block..he could turbo his b16 and be twice as fast as a poor man R or a ls/vtec.

LS blocks are so cheap and easy to find in good condition. couple hundreds, you could get yourself a b18a block at the junkyard already. might aswell find a gsr block which cost a little more only. i would prefer a b18 block over a torqueless b16 block

even better...take out your motor sell it..buy a ls motor and boost :-D....should only end up a couple of hundred dollars more depending on what shape your b16 is in :-D

Just boost the B16A. If you must have a 1.8 get a GSR short block or an LS block with ARP rod bolts and B16 pistons would be purty nice. Boost is best though!

yeah but it'll still be cheaper to just sell the b16...he could get about a good 2800 depending on what shape the motor is in....ls motor goes for about 2000 then he would have 800 to spend...add in 300 and boom turbo :-D

id say get a GSR block with some high compression pistons (ITR, p30, CTR) since u already have that b16 tranny.. its a good NA set up

Thats what i was thinking just rebuilt the gsr block, mill the head and look into changing out the valve train. This is a winter car right now so turbo may not be the best and lsvtec is iffy to me i dont want to expletive with it that much. Project car is a 95 del sol and next year im looking at picking up a 2005 or so GTO.
