Default Honda Civic 1.6 sport

Hi there. I currently own a modified vauxhall corsa 1.2, and am considering swapping it for a Honda Civic 1.6i VTEC Sport (the one with the bodykit type thing)

Just after some general info on them, reliability, how much to pay for a decent model etc etc.

Also, I believe they produce about 103 bhp as standard am I right? I am also wanting a bit of info on what sort of things can be done to raise this? On my corsa for example, a remap, panel filter and full exhaust system would raise it about 85bhp from 72 as stanard.

Any info appreciated

Corsaboy88, I will tell you the guy that knows EVERYTHING about the UKDM Civic 1.6 EM2 chassis, is Andy Nicholson. His name on here is OnlyUK7thGen.

Here is a link to his profile...

He is from England, and he can tell you anything you need to know about that particular car.

Our cars are a bit different than your guys' cars in England. So he would know more than any of us put together.

Opels have a history, from what I have heard, of lasting a terribly long time. But the Civic won't give you "MORE POWER" per se, but it does have more potential from what I have heard.

Even our US domestic market Civic's only put out 127 HP, with known capablities of UP TO 300WHP, but with a TON of money, work, and tuning. A K series out of the UKDM Civic Type R may be your best bet. Even the K20A motor from the Honda Integra Type R would be the best option for you. It puts out 220 HP. And it has the largest aftermarket, so that may be an option for you. Just find qhat you want to do with the car, and run with it.

You have photos of that Civic as it sits now? I hope you get it man. you won't be disappointed with it as a daily driver, or even a small time track queen. It is really up to you what you want to do with it.

Suspension parts are the way to go though to be honest with you. Our cars really don't respond well to eninge mods, except for turbo.

If you modify the Civic, like you modified the Corsa, it'll be a clean car for sure.

Hey there mate, nice to see someone from the UK on here for a change. Your Corsa looks pretty nice from the photos, i'm glad you haven't chavved it up with Flycatcher bodykit and a massive sunstrip

Reliability wise, you can't go wrong with a Civic. The one you're referring to is an EP chassis type, not an EM2 like the guys here have, and i presume it looks something like this:

This is exactly the same model that i test drove before i bought my coupe (it's even the same colour), and aside from being a bit of a fan of coupes, its the car i would have bought. I thought it was smooth, refined, nice to drive and had a really nice gearchange. Where the gear lever is, in the dash mounted position, feels a bit odd at first, but having driven a few EPs it actually feels more natural after a while.
It really does feel like a car from the class above the Corsa, it feels like a more "grown up" car, if you know what i mean.

The 1.6 Sport actually has the 108bhp d16, and is - for want of a better expession - a sort of de-tuned versionof the d17a2 (according to what i've read a couple of times) that came out after the d17a2 saw the light of day. You can probably squeeze a few HP out of it with CAI and exhaust etc.

Insurance wise you'll be fine, as it's only a group 6 I believe (against 11 for the EM2) which is a bit odd, as my old 1997 1.4 Civic was a group 8.

As for pricing, you haven't said what age you were looking at but here's one i found after a quick look on autotrader

(Look at the bottom of this page, the silver one)
http://atsearch.autotrader.co....oto=1

All the examples i saw of around this age were as near as dammit the same price as this one. Just for a comparison, my coupe has the same spec as that hatchback i linked above, is the same colour, has the same wheels but doesn't have the leather/alcantara seats. It does have the 127bhp 1.7cc lump though, and it only had 22,000 miles on it. Oh, and it cost exactly the same price, only it was a couple of months ago now.

I'd say go for it mate, i reckon you'll like it. Or you could always do the sensible thing and get an EM2 coupe j/k. There's one here as an example, 5th car down;

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.....y=12

or here, there's one second from bottom.

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.....y=12

Good look mate, i think you'll love it no matter what you gor for.

Thanks man, i only know what i've learned off you guys (well, that and a lot more reading up on other sites).

The EM2 doesn't come with this 1.6 Sport engine in the UK, it's a d17a2 only, fact fans.
