Default rotor question

Hi all,

I'm a newbie and this is my 2nd post. I have a 05 ex se and I'm a daily driver. At 30,000 miles, felt the rotors were warped because when I brake around 70 mph I felt a strong vibration on the steering wheel. So I took it to the dealer for a brake job because I got a discount. But instead of giving me new rotors, the dealer recommended me all it needed was some re-surfacing/cutting. 3,000 miles later, the vibration went from minor to strong again. So I've decided to replace the rotor. First question is if I'm going to order the parts from honda, which parts do I need to order? Is it just the rotor? Second question is since my brake pads are new, I dont think I need to replace them again?

Sorry for the long post. Btw, I like my civic and I've been getting ~39 mpg on mostly highway.

Thx.

When I did my rotors, my dealership told me that they could not turn the rotors. And I only had 10k on mine when I upgraded the brakes. Wierd.

But to awnser your question, all you will need are a set of rotors and a set of pads.

Here is a DIY if you want to do it yourself. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1759074. It is a simple job, and you may be able to save yourself some money.

I went with a set of Brembo blank rotors, and a set of Hawk HP street compound pads, and have had no problems in more than 20,000 miles of driving.

If you replace the rotors, I would suggest replacing the pads. One, because you already have it torn down and apart. And 2, it is kind of like adding new oil to old. But if they are not TOO glazed over on the pad surface, you may be able to get away with not replacing them, but rather sanding them a little bit to get new pad material to seat on the new rotors.

I strongly agree with Red, Pads+rotors when ur replacing everything.

I also agree with upgrading to brembo blanks, they are very cheap and SUPER good rotors.
And if u want a bit more stopping power, I will attest to the greatness of Hawk pads, i used them on my old CRX, and im just waiting till my stockers wear out before i put brembo's+haws on my EM2

your brake pad could be on the squeeler, meaning it has to be changed.

check out prices of brakes at http://www.dezod.com

they are the lowest ive seen so far.

will those Brembo blank rotors will work with the stock pads?

checked out the website...even though that rotors and pads say for 01-03 civic, I would think it is the same for 05?

Thx for everyone's help.

They will. But I would suggest upgrading the pads as well. They just go hand in hand.

They are the same. Unless you have the Hybrid sedan. They have a different part # for those.

When I bought my Hawk pads, they showed the same part #'s (HB-275) for the 01-05's. SO you will just need to find it for your year, and you are good to go.

I upgraded my rotors to Rotora slotted and cross drilled plus AEM brake pads. I love the feel. It feels way better than stock. My rotors are OEM size.

Also I had a friend who worked in this garage around where I live and he saw the owner of Rotora buying stock OEM rotors from a regular garage... Now that gets me thinking about rotora. lol Best bet is go slotted or go big brake kits slotted and cross drilled.
