coolant leaking? you should definitely get that checked out, asap. might be a blown head gasket? not sure which part you're referring to on the engine.

Well, your coolant is probably the only thing that is green. Unless you've used some sort of additive for any other fluid in your car.

Why'd you post a picture of a D17A7?

That triangle (V-shaped, you stated) area, is on your heatshield for your exhaust manifold (aka. header). Your four cylinders are inside the engine, so I'm having a tough time trying to understand where you're having a leak.

Why don't you save the image you posted, and use MS Paint to put a circle around where you have a leak, and then post that on imageshack.us and drop us a link.

What kind of substance is it? Gooey liquid, or runny, thin liquid?

Does it smell somewhat like warm pancake syrup? Because that's the smell of coolant burning. Then I would agree with fventura03, and say your head is cracked or atleast you've got a leaking head gasket. Check your coolant level to see if it needs coolant, and take your car to get it inspected/repaired, because it's a decent size problem, that could ruin your engine.

Rough estimate - anywhere from $100 to $500.

you should check your temperature gauge as much as possible, lack of coolant will make your engine overheat, so maybe put a bit of water in there to fill it a bit.

no green stuff here... i've owned my car for 3yrs...

that doesn't sound right. if you start hearing noises, then you KNOW something's wrong. right now you're at the stage where you still have time to fix it, when you hear noises, it probably means you'll need a new engine.

i dunno.

No, it's not a common problem. A leaking headgasket, or a cracked head is a rather serious problem.

hi i went to another mechanic today and he said not to get it fixed until you hear a loud noise from the exhaust. i am not sure what to do, should i go to another mechanic to get it checked? i am worried it may cause engine probs?

*** also if there was a big prob with it, would a light come on in the car?

How often does the green stuff appear? And if you can, ask the mechanic what specifically is wrong. Because, if they won't tell you, it sounds very suspicious.

Agreed. If they're not telling you what the problem is, either they don't know, or they know what will happen after prolonged driving and they want more of your money.

clean it up again, check on it a lot, like before/after you drive, see if you can see where it starts. that'd give you an idea of what it is, maybe its a nicked hose that's spraying the coolant onto the header (that'd be the perfect scenario, $5 fix)
