Default Air Pump Problems (Smog Pump)

Ok, so i bought my s2k and the check engine light was on and the dealer wasnt willing to do anything about it, exept that he had it diagnosed for me as the Air pump. I called the local honda dealership and they told me the part was a little over $600. Does any one know any alternative to this rather useless part? Is there a resister or anything of the sort i can hook up to the harness to turn off the check engine light and just take out the dead air pump?

You can buy a used one or cover up the check engine light.

I tried the resistor route and didn't invest enough time to sort it out. The pump turns on based on coolant temperture, basically when the engine is cold the air pump is activated as a secondary air injection system to warm up the cat converter faster to pass the cold start smog test. There's a chance the previous owner disconnected everything and installed in before selling/trading in the car and didn't install everything properly or the pump failed (is a possibility).

You can live with the check engine light or argue with your dealer for selling you the car with a check engine light and request repairs. I wouldn't buy a used air pump unless I knew where it was coming from and the person selling it.

make sure the pump is not working...
when i got my S2K i had the same issues.
however it was the plug that had came off....
i simply plugged it back in adn put some electrical tape around it to ensure it wouldnt come off and BAM good to go
