Default Mugen Hood...

Anybody know the weight of it, and if it's worth the price tag? I am talking about the paintable one with vents.. I am going with a semi-stock looking exterior for my R, i.e. no Carbon fiber, etc.. And this was a consideration.. What other hoods are in the market that can be painted?

I don't think the Mugen hood is worth buying - unless you also plan on buying the bumper that it was designed to work with. I'm sure you've seen the implications of the design before, but I think I should remind you.

If you buy the Mugen front bumper and hood, you will improve the aerodynamics of the car and it will feel much more planted at high cornering speeds. If you buy only the hood, you will just have a very expensive hood with holes in it.

What hood would you recommend Bob? I'd prefer to have one that is paintable and not stock JDM.

Does the C West hood function the same way as the Mugen though? After looking at the Mugen diagrams, this hood too would seem to be a waste of money unless the C-West front bumper accompanied it.

If you don't want a stock JDM hood, then I believe your options are carbon fiber or a Mugen/C-West style designed to improve aerodynamics... If you don't plan on getting a matching JDM hood/bumper setup, and you don't want the CF hood, then I would just get the stock JDM hood... I'm not a JDM front end guru though, maybe there are more options out there.

P.S. If I had the cash, I'd get the Mugen. Only if the car is tracked though - is yours?

The vents will cool down ambient temperature underneath the hood. RED arrows=hot air.

Oh yeah, will I have to worry about rain water getting in the engine bay with one of these hoods?

They should have areas where it leads the water away incase it rains.

One of the things that I have heard about CF hoods is, if you get in font end collision then you might also loose you head . So if your R is a daily driver, and not matter how good you drive accidents do happen, that my be something to consider.

No, they will not go through the windshield because the windshield is designed to cause the hood to slide over the car incase that happens. Why does the hood flare upwards? Worse situation is that the cf shatters all over the place.

Sell the Spoon CF hood and lip, and buy the Mugen front bumper and hood.

I would, but fuggin' cops down here.. And knowing my luck, I'd get a "no front plate" ticket, and then wouldn't be able to attach it.
