Default WTF was that!?!?!

So I just got back from a quick run to Wal-Mart. On my way out, about 100 yds down the driveway, I start hearing a rubbing noise coming from the front drivers-side wheel. My first thought was the pad was simply rubbing on the rotor but this just appeared out of nowhere. So I drove a little further, accelerated quickly, and the noise abruptly stopped. But then it was followed by something that sounded like a belt rapped around the axle tapping on the ground everytime the wheel made a full rotation.

I took a flashlight out but couldn't really see anything. I'll look again tomorrow during the daylight but just in case I don't find anything, what could it have been?

I had a similar issue with the plastic wheel well lining in my car bastard broke the corner light, and dented the fender! It started making a noise every so often (I think it was bouncing along the road) then went BAM! and broke to bits.

intresting... noise like brake and rotor..

I have been having a odd noise latly, but not the belt sound tho. More like a peace of metel scraping over and over every rotation. Same here i looked All over my side right tire... the boot looks nice and clean, but the sound worries me to death my girlfriend is afread my tire will fall off.

Check the lug tourque, and the tire. A nail or something of the sort, could cause smiular sounds.

Similar thing happened to me after replacing my front rotors for the first time..... forgot to impact one of the hub bolts ant it started to come out and rub against the axle (I believe toner-ring). Now my ABS light goes on when I hit 60. Gotta replace the axle now to fix that........ an expensive lesson and still a sore subject..... but I wanted to become a DIYer and save money!

It wasn't a belt, those were the first things I checked. As far as lug torque, I'll definitely check it but doubt it's the problem. I went out and looked it over this morning and nothing visible.
