y7 to y8 tranny swap
look i know this should prob be in the tranny section but no one replied over there so im going to try here. thanks to anyone who replies.
i am probly going to get flamed for this but wtf ever. ok so i have a 98civic cx tranny. longest effing tranny ever invented to my knowledge(i have no clue about transmissions) i will be doing a vtec head swap soon along with the im. but i really am more concerned about getting a shorter tranny first. would the y8 tranny be the way to go and if so how much and how hard would it be to do the swap? sorry for the exreamly noob question. in about 2 years i will have a turbo kit as well. but it still seems like the way that the y8 tranny is geared that it will work out with my turbo perfect almost.

tranny swaps are so easy, undo the 6 bolts, un hook a few sensors, remove the axles, seperate and bolt on the new tranny and re install........i did my first tranny swap in an hr and a half so its not so bad.

The tranny bolts dont really have to be tq'd down...just tight'd it down good...Tranny fluid can be found at your local honda dealership...and it would be much easier if the motor is out of the car but you can do it both ways...

I didnt trq anything down and it sure as hell wont take an hour. It is not to hard. If you have common car knowledge you can perform it. There was a DIY changing clutch thread and I followed that. I wont lie lining up the trany is a real bitch. We had 4 people try to line mine up and it took about 45 min. If you want a quick run down on what you have to do here you go.
Remove air box.
Remove starter.
Remove tires and axles. (you can leave them in but must pull them from the trans)
There are a few bolts that need to be removed around the trans an I belive it is 8?
Oh yes also before you remove the trans completly remove the clutch fluid line.
You then can pry it off and drop it out.
When you reinstall it you will have to bleed the clutch and that is not to hard. Use a cup and a long piece of fish tank tube.
This is by no means a one man job and I would reccomend doing the clutch while you are at it. I may have left some steps out but that gives you a general jist of it. Also the y8 is a great trans and since you are obd2 you should use that one.
I also highly reccomend air tools. They made it so much easier/
