Performance Shop in TN... What a Joke!
Ok so long story short... My rear bushings had rusted the bolts into their sleeves beyond any human strength.. so i went around and everyone said they would have to be cut out...EXCEPT.. for Performance Concepts.. they said they could heat and remove them without cutting or melting the bushings..so i went there and they charged me 50 and came out and said.. "yea they are going to have to be cut" the reason i came to them was to avoid it!!! SOOO i bought new bushings and bolts and went back... they said it would be another 1/2 hr to change em out and to have it there at 8AM .. i show up they say they are booked full and tell me they will call... 5 hrs later i call and they say drop it off and we will have it done by 5.... so i show up at 5 and he says it took 45min to do the left side so thats $80... he rounded up 15 min!!!! and then told me he had to keep it over night and it would be done by lunch tommorow.. he said it would be 160 which is 2 hrs and 45min+45min= $120.. so he rounded up again when he told me it would take 1/2hr= $40
QUOTED AT $40 AND CHARGED OVER 160 = RIP OFF FOR THE WIN
MORAL= NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO PERFORMANCE CONCEPTS IN MURFREESBORO TN UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET TAKEN!!!!!!!!!

More TN people
Theres a lack of them on this site usually.
But yeah, Eddie is a dick usually and most of the time, they underestimate the time it will take just to overcharge you in the end. Poor worksmanship comes along with doing business with them, I have a friend with a G1 that went to them and he didn't like the end result of the work they done on his clutch.

I know the feeling.
I am in Clarksville, and we have a SEVERE shortage of reputable tuning and aftermarket parts suppliers.
It seriously blows.
And I have heard bad stuff as it is about performance concepts. A few people I know have been ripped as well.

Probably because they don't exist.
There was a shop in Pleasant View when I had my GST Eclipse that I got all my parts from. And they even did my engine tuning. Took me down to Atlanta and had my car dynoed and everything. It was call SpeedFab Industries. But they have since closed to the best of my knowledge.
There really is not that big of a market for import tuning around TN that I have personally seen.

Even then, all you really have to choose from is Hunters, and who else (reputable)?
Nobody to my knowledge... Of course, I am only in Nasvhille about 8 hours a day, so I don't know for certain.

I was there. That was the 2nd day that I had my car. Still had drive out tags in it. I was at this year's, but with a few more parts.
Here is a pic at the parking lot the day before last years show. It's getting a Christmas time makeover though :yay:

There is a shortage of reputable tuners in our area, unless its a 350 smallblock or some other domestic junk, then suddenly every redneck is an ASE specialist lol.Seriously, theres a shop in Hunstville owned by a Japanese guy that they just call Gary for short, and he's supposed to be really good and owns a salvage yard in Japan and has some JDM parts,I havent been personally but he and Trackmasters supposed to be really good.
Yea the whole time im waiting they are talking about baracudas, stangs, etc.. i just really got taken bad and it pissed me off.. so i vented and thought i could save some local a wad of cash.. i'm all for estimates and realizing they are just that.. but 1/2 hr turning into 2+hrs and over $120 over estimate w/o asking me first is just wrong..

Personally I know Eddie and tem. And, I trust them. Even tho it took them like 2 months past due to get my sister head sent to the machine shop, and iunno, what ever you do to check n engine after its been rn hot twice to the point where it shuts off. With, my car I will trust them. But, if they screw me over. That FC3S shell(89 RX7) will be on my trailer and parted out on rx7club.com. You here me.
Wow, a thread with nothing but TN residents. To the OP and anyone else looking to get work done on a Honda. See my sig. That's where my car is right now as a matter of fact. They are very good and know what the hell they are doing. It is the only place I will leave my integra out of my site and not worry about it. The owner has been working on Honda's for almost 17 years and the other mechanic is very good at what he does too. I stand by them. If you go/call tell them Ryan with the black gsr sent you.
The best advise anyone can give you is to start doing more work yourself. I had my rear lower control arm bushings froze to the thru-bolts on the bottom of the shocks just as you did. I had read online that this would probably happen when I researched redoing my suspension. I was prepared with ES bushings and a $10 propane torch. I had an $8 fleemarket grinder and cut the thru-bolts and removed the LCA's, shocks and springs.
I used the torch and burnt the old bushings out, they don't melt, they just turn to soot. I used a hacksaw ($5) to cut the outer bushing metal ring and hammered them out with an old screwdriver. The new ES bushings went in pretty easily with my $23 arbor press so I think standing on a piece of wood would have installed them with no problem. All of this was actually really easy and using the torch was kinda fun.
So for $23 in tools and 2 hours time I replaced my rear shocks and installed new bushings in the lower control arms, and I am a NOVICE, so anyone with common sense could have done it.
I also have replaced my suspension, clutch, flywheel, engine mounts, differential, and a bent piston rod (hydro-lock), all solo with hand tools using a manual, and alittle research on G2IC and HondaTech. Next month I plan on rebuilding the engine with performance parts and only paying someone else to do machine work and tuning.
Good luck in your future plans and I hope you decide to tackle more jobs yourself, because, you will probably do a better job than someone who doesn't really care about your car like you do.
BTW, my 92 RS has 299,700 miles and I plan to rebuild at exactly 300K cause it is a nice round figure. It probably could go another 100K miles, but I want to raise the compression and build it up a bit for more performance.

Yea I guess its a lesson learned.. and to this point I have done everything on my own.. but oh well I guess I will be better prepared for the future
