flywheel recommendation (3 in mind)
thinking of putting a flywheel for next summer, so i'm going to save up for one, but what would you recommend. going to get a clutch as well, but don't know what yet, so i'll figure out the flywheel first than the clutch.
so for the choices they are:
Comptech = 7 lbs
Spoon = 9.2 lbs
Fidenza = 7.5 lbs
-> as rated on there website.
TIA.

I've been running with the Comptech piece for 6+ years without any regrets.

Excedy. It's Chromoly and can be resurfaced.
Edit: Stay away from the spoon one, the teeth have had issues in the past. I purchased a used one with "5000" miles on it and the teeth were all chewed up.

I've had Spoon...
and I was one of the unlucky ones to have it grind with the OEM USDM Denso starter.
So I swapped it out for a Mitsuba starter from the EM1 Si/SiR ('99-'00)
Response was improved, but for the price vs. performance, you can't beat Fidanza at the moment...I'm very much for alum. flywheels over chromoly anyday.... I felt an improvement even by going to my CM alum. vs the Spoon.
Unless you use ATS or some sort of super single ....then you don't have much of a choice....

I've been running it with the stock clutch since day one... I replaced my clutch a short while ago and the flywheel still looked brand new.
My car has all the usual bolt-on bits but the engine has been otherwise stock (of coarse that’s changing...)

Not sure... you'll have to look into it. The Comptech one is 6.75lbs if I remember correctly.

But a friend of mine bought one who lives in Edmonton and paid $20.00 for shipping through USPS priority and didn't get dinged for anything additonal.
Maybe he was just lucky?

I'm running the Spoon flywheel and clutch. I've had no problems whatsoever. I love it.
For my setup, anything lighter would be too light, IMO. I'm running on an N/A Type R motor that's mostly stock.
I guess it depends on all the mods you have if you should go with a lighter flywheel or not.

I'd argue *ahem*...debate....
that an R that is 100% stock as far as powertrain goes, should go with the lightest flywheel possible.
After driving cars back to back - the alum. flywheel car feels so much livelier.... the speculation of whether or not a flywheel can be too light should never be an issue....
in the R's specific nature.... imo, the lighter the better.

That depends, if you like to run a/c. I have a Toda flywheel a little over 8.5 lbs and with a/c on when I come to a stop the rpms come down so fast it stalls the car. Other than that its ok. I also have no power steering though.
