Default 6th to 2nd @ 80mph.... holy 9300 rpm!!!!

yeah you guessed it..on the way to work this morning i was half asleep on the freeway and this mother F was riding my ***. So what do i do? I go to downshift into 4th and take off like a bat out of hell next thing i know im looking at my tach go beyond the redzone. I pushed the clutch back in the second i let it out but it revved so fast there was nothing i could do. Car still drives fine just scared the **** out of me.

Im posting this because im wondering if i could've screwed something up internally that i wouldnt immediately notice and if there would be any way to check on it. Im just worried for some reason. Like i said car drives fine no weird noises etc.

compression test. but if you pushed the clutch in before it went over redline your proly fine...especially if it still drives normal.

Hondata claims the motors can handle up to 9600 rpm, and I believe that our motors have s2k valve springs to handle high rpms... Not that I am saying what you did is something that can be done regularly, but if it feels fine then you should be fine... If you over reved the car bad then you would have bent the valves and you would notice that. If you wanna be safe then get a comp. test like others have stated.

Oh yea, I know what you mean about driving tired, I curbed one of my wheels going to work awhile ago!! I was pissed

awesome. yeah i think im gonna get a compression test this weekend hopefully. I was searching clubrsx and they where talking about a dollar bill test. Fold it in half long ways and hold it up to your exhaust tip while the car is running and if it sucks in then you have a bent valve. Well i did that and it fluttered like CRAZY. So who knows what thats all about. Maybe somebody else who HASNT misshifted can try that and confirm. K20Z1 has s2k valve springs? damn.

anyways thanks for the replys fellas. My mind is a little more at ease. Even tho the car runs fine, im still paranoid about something being screwed up.

Im guessing you have a raised rev limit if you passed 8400k correct?

rev limiter is useless if you misshift.

8300? lol. You shouldn't hurt anything there. Hell the rev limiter is pretty set around there and I used to hit that all the time. You're fine.

Compression test is great and all ... but a leak down test is what you need to do.

if the compression test checks out fine then i dont think its necessary to do a leakdown. Dunno tho the shop im gonna have do my compression test is charging 40 bucks. I dont have my own tools or anything to do it so i have no choice but to take it somewhere.

i doubt i did any damage either. Im just paranoid like a ****. I drive around with the windows down and no music now listening to the motor. The noises i hear where probably always there but the slightest noise freaks me out lol.

Man, I am the same way, and I have never taken my motor past 6K. I can only imagine how it feels.

You may benifit from a compression, leakdown, and oil pressure tests just to make sure everything checks out.

Next time, just take your foot off the gas and coast to decrease your speed when someone is behind you. It works every time. I have gotten a few people down to 20 in a 45 because I don't like people riding my tail.

They will go around.

FYI, 6th to 2nd @ 80mph would send the rpm to about 11,500rpm.

true story. consider yourself very lucky if nothing is broken. I'd take the valve cover apart to inspect all the roller bearings and the cam lobes. as well as a full compresion test/leakdown.

Bingo. like i said before it takes 11000-12000 RPMS to damage the engine... i highly doubt there is anything wrong with your engine.. I mean this is a honda quality vehicle..
