Default the trails with my auto

now i have an tiptronic 01 SE and im wondering if mods like the skunk 2 manifold, pulleys, and fuel rail would make much differance or free up some power to the car. I know autos are a sin but im just wondering if its worth the investment to upgrade the engine. Just add your pros and cons thanks.

now why is that, is it due to the ECU and its not tunable?

it works better with forced induction.. and its a bitch to get all your sensors working correct. Your better off with stock or with a Euro-R (Euro-R is also a bitch to get working but will make more power NA than junk2)

A new fuel rail won't add any power, at least anything noticeable, but it also won't hurt. The best way to add power to a auto (other than bolt ons) is getting OEM parts like Type-S cams and pistons. A fuel rail might help power after those mods though. Getting an aftermarket intake manifold will most likely reduce low end power due to the shorter runners, the stock one with the IAB's is your best bet, and that way you can keep up with 5-speeds off the line, get what I'm sayin? You need to keep the low end power to make up for the automatics's longer gearing. That's my theory anyways.

IAB is Intake Air Bypass, the system opens up "butterfly" valves inside the intake manifold at approx. 4800rpm to circuit air into the shorter runners, therefore creating more high-end power. But until 4800rpm, the butterfly valves are closed and only directs air into the longer runners to create better low-end torque. It's like having two intake manifolds in one, one for the low-duration cam lobes, and one for the high-duration cam lobes that kick in at 5200rpm (VTEC). To keep IAB's open all the time, remove the vaccum line going to the gold diaphram on the right side (as if u were under the hood) of the intake manifold. Then plug the hose with a screw or a golf tee. It may add a couple midrange horses, but it takes away more low-end power than you will gain in your midrange.

as far as boosting with that auto, read this first

I think the best idea for doing a tranny swap is finding a front clip for sale, or finding a manual prelude at a junkyard and get all the needed parts if they'll let you, because you need alot of stuff. I wish I could do that to my car, but I do enjoy the auto for times when I'm on my phone or eating fast food, etc. I love to drive manuals but I tend to drive them a little harder and faster, so I'll get one someday that I can abuse at the track or around town, like a EG6 with a K20A. I've seen those smoke Evos and STI's, even on the track!
