lmfao.
I'm not sure which is funnier, the way he phrased that, or the way you responded to that.
"I got it off by banging the **** outta it"
(replace "it" with"her")
"just keep banging it"

In case you're wondering no, this post has no technical value.

they make this tool.....you would never guess that you could use it to do what you wanted, but believe it or not...IT WORK...ball joint separator....careful, they're a tricky little bastard to use, but if you get it right...they'll work wonders...later,
Pickle fork will ruin your ball joint boots.
Banging the **** out of it will take HOURS.
This is the PROPER way to do it. Using this tool:

It's called a "Pitman Arm Puller" and you can pick it up for $10 bucks at AutoZone. Make sure you get the one for compact cars.
I use mine all the time and it works wonders.

Hit the side of the LCA near the ball joint with a hammer until it becomes loose (gotta be careful)
OR
Stick a prybar between the hub and LCA assembly to get it out

You know whats funny. For all the time and energy I spent doing my ball joints, I should have paid the shop to do it. They only charged for 1 hour of labor at $70 plus parts. It was the worst job by far I have done on my car. I remember I had to have my girlfriend and her friend basically stand on my LCA so the spring would decompress enough to slide the bolt back in. Heh.
Search out the rachet trick, works every time.

definately the easiest way.

jack the entire hub up, put a ratchet next to the ball joint, lower the jack, give the hub a good kick down and the ball joint wil separate
[edit]heres a better link... wiht pictures of the ratchet and videos. [/edit]
