Ok so I recently picked up some rings for a D16z6, but I am putting D16y7 pistons in my D16z6 block. (dont ask) All of the oil rings and the very top compression ring fits perfect, but the second larger compression doesn't fit for ****. My question is, is the ring sizes different? Damn near everything is interchangable on a SOHC honda for the most part so why doesn't this work?

 

Im thinking about just taking the 4 rings that dont fit to a machine shop and have them throw em' on a face grinder and just shave off like .002 to make em fit...
Think this will still be ok?

 

most rings are supposed to be trimmed before installing. are you measuring them in the cylinder and off the piston with a feeler gauge?

 

yes but that is just trimming the gap... Im talking the whole ring is to fat to fit into the groove.

 

I'm guessing this is some sort of budget build and buying a set of rings is out of the question?

 

Ya this is a budget build... unfortunately.
