Default Stubborn head bolts

Anyone have any tips for removing stubborn head bolts? I tried a breaker bar as well as an impact driver (not impact gun)

ya they are a bitch, you need to use a breaker bar with alot of force or an impact gun. best with alot of torque in it

I wasn't sure if the impact gun would be likely to snap the bolts. I'll give it a try

i would recomend a longer breaker bar and NOT to use an impact gun, when they are really stubrron it is too easy to round the bolts out....done it a few times already and thats a real pain then.

those bolts are really strong, if you use a good quality socket that fits right you wont round it off

I've been using a 6 point socket, so it's not likely to round off. Impact gun at 100 PSI woulnd't move them. I'll see if I can dig up a pipe and try and move them

1/2 breakover bar should do the trick.

Well, I put a 2 foot pipe over my breaker bar and had my dad hold the block while I pulled on it, and we managed to get them all out without breaking any off

thats the way to do it. thogh i often start with a 24 inch breaker then add a 24+ inch pipe to it. crack each one then use the impact gun.

i have seen rounded head bolts off with 6 point Mac, Matco, SK and Snap On sockets before specially with high power impact guns. Its because the amount of toque can make the gun jump unless you are strong/heavy enough to not let it, but whent he gun makes 650ft/lb that can often be hard.
