what exactly is offset?
i know a little about offset but i don't know what is a good offset or a bad offset for a car. i know it varies upon car. but like between +30-45 what the difference? any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Think of it this way... If you have less offset, then the wheel will stick out further, if you have more offset the wheel with be pulled in further. You're constrained my hitting the fenders on the outside and the suspension/brakes on the inside. So you have to have an offset that allows you to push the wheel out as far as you can, without hitting the fender.
When you start to calculate a spacer remember to SUBTRACT the size of the spacer from the offset. For instance 15x7 with 45mm offset wheel with a 5mm spacer will have the same offset as a 15x7 40mm offset wheel.
