Default ECU question related to transmission

So in light of my new need for a timing belt on my h23, a $500 spend, I have started to wonder if it's even worth it, or just hoof out 500 more bills and get an H22.
It seems that the full swaps with the auto trannys sells for less than any other swap, infact only about 300 dollars more than just the motor, and about 700 less than the manual swap.

If I get the swap I will chuck the auto-tranny of course and use my 5 spd becuase I wish to retain my *********.

My question is: Do the automatics have a different ECU, or is the tranny controlled by its own device?

Or should I just buy the motor all by itself, and then get an ECU, and just wire the missing parts. Becuase I am pretty sure my Si is pre-wire for the H22, I saw that little connector on the wheel well.

So in that rational, I am better off with the 5spd swap, or just the motor...

Thanks SB.
