So I just found this tonight while doing a comp check. Few seconds after I start my R, I hear a sucking noise and then a CLICK and then it stops ( quieter ) but the car still running. It really sounds like the click comes from the starter. Here's a short video, it sounds like the fan is going off but it isn't even on.

does it do this on both hot and cold starts?

 

I would have to try on cold start, it was hot when I recorded it.

 

Sounds like your starter didn't disengage! Maybe a sticky solenoid thing. Sounds exactly like that. You should hear it from the starter on top of the tranny, not popping off the flywheel right.

 

Are you sure its not just teh ABS pump priming after start up, sort of makes a buzzing type noise for a few seconds then stops, it may be more apparent with the hood up...?

 

^^ That could be it. But I hear a click noise also, would that be from that? This morning when i started my car with engine cold, I didn't hear anything. Will try again with engine warmed up and see what's going on. Maybe switch out starter since I have one laying around.

Thats what I thought at first, I've never heard of that happening though!
