HORRIBLE gas mileage? Anyone else?
I have a 2001 YZF 600cc carburated yamaha.... i been having some issues with it where it wouldn't run on all 4 cyl. Well i took it to the shop that had no clue what they were doing and after two weeks in there they did pretty much everything they could but it still wasnt running right. They changed the plugs, cleaned the carbs, he said he synced them the best as he could, and gave me the bike back. Well as soon as i picked it up it didnt sound right. IT rode fine, same power, same eveyrything just didnt sound right. I figured the hell with with it, it rides fine so I left it alone. Well I filled up full tank and a week later i ran out of gas at only 160 miles. Before i used to get 300+!!! Any ideas? My gas mileage completely went to hell could it be carbs sync problem? Air to fuel adjusting prob? I need help guys... I really dont want to take it back to the guy, he is an idiot and i dont want to pay him any moeny to do the "Guess Work"

If the shop doesn't know jack about bikes, why did you bring it to them?
Find a reputable shop and pay to get it fixed right. Make some friends, especially with the service manager. That will save you time, headache, and bs when/if you have another problem with the bike.

thats funny....
but no .. I'm serious I used to get more than 160 a tank. ITs a 4.5 gallon tank and everytime I would top it off and reset the tripometer I would get around 300 miles on it.
As far the shop... well, i didnt know they had no clue what they were doing. But i guess you learn from your mistakes.
Another thing i was thinking.. could it be the ethanol in gas that the gas stations are putting in nowdays?

No way 300miles on a tank. I get 150 before I chicken out and hit a gas station with my 1995 YZ600. At that point I normally fill 3.5-3.75 gallons so 200miles to the tank would ne the absolute limit.
My bike is jetted for sea level, it's a CA model. It has always ran rich up here at 4,000 feet. Once I opened up the airbox a good deal, it has ran alot better and gets pretty damn good mileage now. On my last trip to Billings, I got aroung 47 mpg. I was very happy. I can get over 200 miles on a tank if I take it easy with and just cruise.

300 miles in 4.5 gallons is 66 mpg. I don't know if that sounds right. My F4i would get 45 miles on the freeway, the first week i had it. Then i started getting 36mpg when i started using it more "liberally." I'm in agreement on the KM thing. I think your trip/odo must have been in KM and it got changed. 160 is still good for a 600 in a tank, especially a carbed one.
Ethanol in the gas can effect mileage, but it's only really in gas companies notorious for using more Ethanol than others. These stations are usually 10 cents or so cheaper, so they're easier to spot. Places like safeway, costco, Arco, and anything else that seems "too good to be true." All gas has Ethanol in it, but most companies keep it below 10%. More than that and it can effect gas mileage. But not in a 300>160 kind of way.

i usually fill up every 120 or so miles, but i guess i could go another 30 or 40. been getting about 42 mpg on my bike.
stops at only 2 gallons? are you inserting the pump into the tank like you would a car? because the pump is designed to stop once there's gas at the tip. you have to hold the rubber thing back with your hand and pump the gas so that the tip is higher up in the tank, or so i've found.

How are you healing?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Me? Better. Much better. I have almost 100% mobility in my arm and shoulder. I still can't lift heavy things and push-ups are a definite no-no. Then again, push-ups were hard to do before my injury.
I still haven't ridden a motorcycle (except once on a scooter) since the accident, but I have a strange urge to drag knee-puck all of a sudden. Guess I will have to settle for draggin' feet (SuMo!! Hai yah!!).
Thanks for askin'.

yea, i've been doing that in fear of overfilling. but my last fill up, i pulled it back and i added an extra gallon ~ gallon and a half. this time i should get a lot more miles before i have to fill up again (besides, i ride like a granny)
