Is it really bad to grind any gear ?
Ive read about this before someone mentioned that 3rd gear on the si would slip here and there and that it should be shifted into with force if need be. Ive been fine with shifting since i got my si last week but once this weekend and once this mourning going to work 3rd gear grinded. I put it in 3rd but i guess it didnt go in all the way or just sliped out but it was a small grinding noise but sounded like something i didnt want to hear. I hope this dosent happen again from this point on i need to be extra careful with 3rd gear also since the winter is comin. I would like to know with just a few grinds would that hurt the tranny at all or would it hurt it down the line when there are alot more miles on the car ?
On my last 4 Honda manuals, without fail, I get a grind from 1st to 2nd on a fast shift. You'll see many, many, many people on various forums reporting that.
In my Si, when the car is cold, I have trouble shifting into 3rd as well, and have grinded the gears about 10 times. There is some issue with 3rd where it just won't go in all the way on a standard shift, and then...grind.

same problem here...i was beginning to doubt my driving skills till i found this thread.
and it definitly does not like to shift when it's not fully warmed up...SOLUTION: take the rpm's to 4k and it goes right into 3rd...and for the latter, i think we all know the answer to that one

Grinding is fine, just don't force it. Back off the gear, reclutch, and put it back into the gear you were going for.
It's not a big deal, just try to learn from it and notice what you were doing to grind it. Take it easier if necessary. Especially on 3rd gear.
Oh, and I know this has been said around these forums, but having had my own experience with it, the 3rd gear grinding issue is lessened a TON by installing the Comptech Short Shifter. It's awesome

Yeah, it is not just you jonssonar. Many people here have posted problems, and I know in my test drive at the dealership, the one I took out ground 3rd at a slow lazy pace. Mine did catch, but no grind, before the SS kit, but now it's pretty damn smooth.

SO AS STATED BEFORE BEST IDEA IF IT DONT GO RIGHT AWAY, DROP IT BACK TO NEUTRAL AND TRY AGAIN.(BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY)

AHAHAHA yea no kidding.
well its got autoX stickers all over it, i think maybe he auto crosses it, when hes really not to brilliant and driving a manual and has just beat it down good and hard, and once it was being stubborn really just beat the hell out of it, slamming it once i dont think is gonna bend the **** out of em that bad.
I shoula taken pictures but honda called for the parts back, like they normally do in a warranty situation involving something of that nature.
