Solutions for next car not getting stolen
My 2000 civic si blue got stolen a couple days ago.......i accpted the fact cuz it was bone stock getting rdy for upgrades.....the insurance coverd me to get another 1 soon...i was wondering what security things will work for ym car not being stolen again..thanks
Nothing is going to 100% prevent it from being stolen.
You can start with good 2 way alarm with prox sensor, glass sensor, etc. Then add on a couple of well hidden ignition/starter kill switches. Then, add some interior piezo sirens.
Layering your security system is the key here...
Edited to add battery backup and motion/tilt sensor.

The two guys in the pics above and as many layer as possiable. This will make sure you get your car back in one peice. Also make sure the alarm is installed correctly and not just thrown under the dash.
the best bet is to get a steering wheel adapter, to remove you steering wheel, when you are not in your car, and get lojack. it about 600 bucks for that system. police will track the car down, and get it back to you. and if they dont fine it they will cut you a check for $5000...
can install on laptops, car, suv, bikes (motorcycles) etc...

Steering wheel removal is not a reliable theft deterrent.
The only things that work are 1) stealth installed alarm w/battery backup and a hidden piezo 2) a tracking device 3) a parking enforcement boot 4) a fuel kill switch. Anything not mentioned here is not a reliable theft deterrent and should be considered a visual deterrent at best.

This might be kind of a dumb question, but where do you suggest locating the extra battery? And what kind of battery anyways? Can it be smaller?
Seems like there should be a tutorial on security layers in the FAQ thread about this stuff, because judging by how many "EBP EM1 stolen in XXXville USA" threads we have popping up everyday, nobody is securing their cars properly.

here is a pic of the back-up battery, or should I say a link, sorry don't feel like posting a pic,
http://cgi.ebay.com/DEI-520T-B...wItem
This can be hidden any were in the car. sorry there are no dumb questions just stupied answers. Yea there could be dumb questions, but anyways back on topic. Make sure you buy the back up battery from a local shop. To many of the people from the site that I do there alarms that buy ebay back up batteries for some reason don't hold a charge. And its a pain in the *** for the installer to stop what he is doing to grab anthor. Especially if your sold out on them or are doing a mobile install. I do beleive there is a tutorial in the faq. Check out suspendedhatch write up. There is great information in there. Plus he tells you how o steal cars.....lol,lol, j/k. Naw check it out for real.

OK I know I'm a newb here and I garner pretty much zero respect, but that FAQ thread is not helpful whatsoever. It's impossible to find anything. There should be a list of compiled threads in the original post the way the 92-2000 civic forum has the FAQ. The whole point of an FAQ thread is to make it easy for people to find information. A long thread that you have to search through defeats the purpose and useful information is lost.
Just trying to improve things...
Anyways, that was a tangent, thanks for answering my Q about the battery.

There is one. The guy that wrote it is a real dick though. http://www.vsracing.net/~suspended/
Hey, if someone wanted me to make it Honda-tech specific and host it in a sticky, I would. But I don't think we have a moderator in this forum.
DEI 520T Search on ebay.
*There. I added some stuff to the first page. It's a poor excuse for the update/edit that the page needs. But now it's even more condescending and offensive!

I cannot express how powerful this tirelock is against theft of your vehicle.
I personally use a lock just like it a police officer told my about it and now im telling you guys this tirelock is a powerful deterent against theft of your vehicle when coupled with wheel locks, and even a good basic alarm and common sense.
when you layer you security like this you can sleep good at night !
The Tirelock is on ebay!

Tirelock has the same inherent flaw as the Alphalock. It doesn't cover the lug nuts. Simply remove the wheel, install the donut. No parking enforcement agencies use that. NATO troops? I call bullshit. Where's the proof? If it were a lot cheaper, it'd be a viable visual deterrent. But that is a serious waste of money that could be put to better use.
Get a real parking enforcement boot like cxshoe has.
The piezo we're referring to is a universal siren for car alarms. http://cgi.ebay.com/CAR-ALARM-...wItem

tirelock has a cover that covers the lugs
And FTW : I will park my car anywhere and I bet it will be there in the morning and if it is gone they didn't drive it off and in that sense they better work fast !!!
I welcome any challenges
security is a mod

i have nrg quick release with the lock, i take my steering wheel with me to school and work, also have the viper 791vx
i lock my steering wheel before i put my nrg lock on and then i take my ecu out. the only way my car will get jacked is if a tow truck comes, i get jumped, or they bring a si ecu and a steering wheel.

kill switches FTW. oh, I'm thinking about trying the cell phone GPS tracking approach I've seen posted recently. That won't prevent it from being stolen, but may help to recover it sooner. someone should make some stickers that say, "Attention: This car has a Police-tracking device installed".
or you can just get lojack for a bit more and it's backed with a great reputation and $. a buddy of mine sells cars and they had a lojack exercise once. They used a laptop to track the "stolen" car and were able to actually get right behind it on the road.

Neither do I, and I don't take anything out of my car. Someone needs a flat bed to steal my car too: a properly installed alarm goes a long way
