Anyone running drag radials on their street car?
wondering what size of drag radials people are using on their street car. im not talkin about the Nitto 555s or somethin weak like those.. im more interested in the mickey thompsons or the bfg's... curious about the turning radius, coil over/suspension settings, fitment/look once mounted, and overall performance of the tire being used.. any info and pics would be great..
no for the street... im using 26" slicks for the track... i was interested in seeing what kind of radials people are using since regular tires are not gonna be sufficient to get traction for me..

People generally do NOT use drag radials for the street. Why? Few reasons, one, it's illegal, two, it's unsafe, three, WHAT'S THE PURPOSE?
Run the drag radials at the track...leave 'em there...

What kind of magical setup do you have where you're too special for street tires?

The BFG's work fine on the street if you drive conservatively (at least they did for me), although I'm not sure if those are any bettter than the Nitto DR's. They're not the best on wet pavement or when cornering, but they grip pretty well in a straight line and will last for several thousand miles. I ran mine around town for a bit, but eventually got tired of babying the car on wet pavement and through turns and raised my car back up, rolled my fenders, then went with some wider street tires. I don't know about the MT's (never used them), but I definitely wouldn't run the Hoosier DR's on the street (although I loved mine for the track), they're about like a slick (and have warning labels all over them not to use them on the sreet). You may also want to check in the drag racing forum for more information on streetable drag radials.

For anyone else wondering about this, try daily driving a 400+ WHP Civic and you'll understand.
As far as them being legal and safe for street use, check with the manufacturer. They are all legal for street use, that's the whole purpose of the DR (street-legal radial tire class drag racing), and some are safe for street use (like the BFG DR), while some are not (like the Hoosier DR). The BFG DR especially is optimized for street use, high-speed stability, cornering (I wouldn't autocross it, but it's okay for normal daily driving), compatibility with other radial tires on the non-drive axle, etc. BFG also says it's for street use and they made it.

DR arent illegal on the street. Some are still DOT approved. I plan on running BFG DR 235/50/15 when i get my car up and running again for the street. But really you should do your tire selection on how much power your making. Check out the drag forum alot of those guys live by the BFG DR for street.

reason im askin is because just like rmcdaniels stated.. 400whp+ on the street will not do well traction wise with street tires.. drag radials are for street use or for track if not wanting to shell out the money for slicks.. im wanting to know what size people are using with their 16" wheels.. mickey thompsons only come in 255/60/16. and those are way too big.. im thinkin of somethin like 225 series..
my car will never see rain, or inclement weather.. only weather 65 or warmer..

i just looked at the BFG website and they only make a 255/50/16.. damn i guess i have the wrong size wheels...lol

Thx, I'll stick with where I am though.
See, Luserkid cleared it up for me, I didn't know they started DOT approving them (which was my bad) for street use. Though I still stand by my other point that with 400whp you should still be able to drive on street tires and the other one that if it rains you will not have much traction for ****. Or you will, but ur hydroplane chance shoots up.

1) On a front wheel drive 400whp car, you def need something better than street tires. Even with drag radials that car will have trouble with traction.
2) Who races in the rain? lol
