yeah...good luck to all that if it wasnt a misprint

my friend just sold his stock 1997 LS about a year ago for a little over 9000... the car had 31000 miles on it.

how many miles is on your car? I dont see that anywhere in your ad? (am I looking hard enough?)

I will offer you 5500 for it, provided no dents on the body, the paint is flawless and the car hasnt been in a major accident. Its not as much as what you want, but I can cut a check out to you in 3 days. let me know.

I must look stupid. Really, I must. Retail for my car, from Kelly Blue Book (with the 77,000 miles on it) is $11,600. Now I know I'm not gonna sell it for that, so I dropped the price $1,000. Private Party value is $9,800. And you're offering me $5,500 like it's a good deal? Are you serious? That's rediculous. I bought the damned thing six months ago for $9,100 and it came out to around $10,000 all said and done. I'd have to be a total freaking idiot to sell it for $5,500. Or even anything less than $8,800.

If you wanna make me a real offer or know someone who would, please let me know. Otherwise...

Oh, and those numbers were $11,800 retail and $9,630 private party. And it is in good condition. Not perfect, but pretty damned good. And it has some nice options on it, especially for an RS.

well just to let you know.. your not supposed to take the average between the two prices. Retail is usually from a dealer. Dealer prices are higher, due to servicing, cleaning, general maintenance and the fact that they have to protect themselves for 30 days due to lemon laws.
private party is what you would charge if your car was imaculate and was no longer being driven, just up for sale.

You might get $9k for your car..

My car private party value is around $16,250 but I would take $15k for it.
Cause I know that I am not going to get $16k for it.

Just offering some friendly advice.
drop it to 9 and it might sell drop it to 8 and it will sell.

Testimonials of, "I'm an idiot and sold my car for way less than it was worth" or "I know a guy who..." will not convince me to sell my car for less. I'm well aware that few people, if anyone, will be willing to buy my car for $10,500. That's why I'm going to wait. I'm in no hurry. I like my car. When someone finally comes along who is willing to buy it, I sell. If I want to sell it sooner I'll drop the price. Until then... I just wait. I thought I'd come here and see if anyone was interested. Instead I get a bunch of "you're a dumbass" comments. Thanks guys. That's swell. Glad to see people can be jackasses still. I think I'd forgotten.

Lemme put it this way. If I ask $10,500 and don't get it, what have I lost? Nothing. I'll have more money in the bank for my GS-R. Sure my car depreciates more, but I don't care. I'll have to lower the price anyway to sell it. But, if someone does want it, score! I sell my car for what I wanted.

And to the guy who called me a dumbass: I don't think I was asking for your evaluation of my selling price. To anyone else who agrees: I don't care. I already know it's a long shot. I'm anticipating that. But if it works, it's worth it.

BTW, my dad co-owns a used car lot so I can sell the damned thing any time I want to for probably what I'm asking since it'll be on a lot (okay that's still optimistic). And I can get a GS-R cheap because of where my dad's business partner buys cars.

To sum up: unless you're willing to buy my car for what I'm asking or have tips to help me sell it for what I'm asking, you can just keep your comments to yourself. I probably already know what you're going to say.

okay. you seem to be a jerk from the replies you have been posting. So here are some things to clear up before you turn **** on anyone else:

1) You are not a retailer. Dealerships retail. They offer warranties. They clean up the car. They offer extended warranties.

2) you are a private seller. That price you are quoting, $9,630, only goes for cars that are in mint condition in optimal conditions, in stock form. You have del slow rims on it. You have tinting. You hacked in a sunroof. If you want to be **** about it, it should be worth less.

3) I now retract my 5500 offer. I will now offer you 3900 for the car, since its obviously has some flaws and possibly a collision before.

edit: now that I saw your stuck up attitude about how your dad owns this and how you can sell it for whatever you want, i retract my 3900 now. I will only offer you 500 for the car. The car has been butchered, who knows what else has happened.

4) The KBB value of cars is not very accurate, and as a car dealer once said, "no one pays Kelly blue book values. If the cars are really worth so much, where is Kelly? How come she doesnt buy these cars and resell them. There is no Kelly."

5) We understand you paid 10k for your RS. Whether or not that was a wise decision at the time, who knows. But what I can tell you is you got ripped. No one ever pays retail for a car like an integra. You are trying to walk out of here with what you paid for, plus 500.

6) if prices in the bay area are over inflated, why not just sell it in the local newspaper in the bay area? That might be your only hope.

As Jerry Seinfeld would say: "Good luck with all that."

I think it's time to clear the air. This took a wrong turn, a very wrong turn. What started as a classified for my car has turned into an argument about, "You're an *******/dumbass for selling your car for that" and "you got 'ripped through the *******' for buying at wholesale."

A few things, just because I somehow feel compelled to "save my name," I'm not sure why.

I got my car for practically wholesale when I got it: $9,100. That's what it was worth wholesale when I bought it at that condition and mileage (okay the ding in the quarter panel should've been fixed, but it's very minor). Why did I get it from there, instead of my dad's lot? Two reasons. First, it wasn't opened yet and because he said that Hondas are very hard to find at auctions in good condition at cheap prices. It can be done, but it takes a long time. I was driving a '78 Cadillac without A/C and was very anxious to get something new. Second, I got it from there because the guy I bought it from has an ***-load of Acuras and Hondas and gets them for great deals through his brother who owns an Acura dealership, or something like that. He cut me a deal and sold it for less than he was asking because he knew my dad.

As for my selling price... Well, truth be told, I should sell for less. I probably will. I don't appreciate you guys yelling at me just because you think I'm asking too much. I am. I know that. I'm hoping that someone will want it for that. No one probably will.

I know I'm not selling it for a "good deal." The car is clean, in good condition, and worth probably a little less than Private Party value. When I finally do sell it, I might go down to that. But why start there?

"If this is true why did you get raped by paying 9100 for your RS?" Raped? I got raped for buying at wholesale value? Well, that's news to me. But, anyway, I don't want to argue about it. I'm not trying to be hostile! Honest!

"you seem to be a jerk from the replies you have been posting." A jerk? Why? I've tried to be polite, not rude. I'm sorry if you're misreading what I'm writing, but I'm honestly not trying to fight with all of you here. Really!

Okay, yes, I was a bit upset, when all of you jumped my *** for my asking price. So my inital comments were certainly less than kind. So, I wasn't being totally netural. I admit that. But it was really stupid for me to fight over that.

"I now retract my 5500 offer. I will now offer you 3900 for the car, since its obviously has some flaws and possibly a collision before." A collision? On what do you base that? Admittedly, there is a small dent in the left, rear quarter panel. That's the only flaw on the entire car. Oh, one time I spilled Dr. Pepper on the center console and immediately cleaned it up.

"now that I saw your stuck up attitude about how your dad owns this and how you can sell it for whatever you want, i retract my 3900 now." My stuck up attitude? I really didn't mean to come off that way. I'm trying to be honest. Someone thought I was full of it when I said that I could get a GS-R relatively cheap, so I explained why. I don't know that I could get one that low for sure (I'd be surprised), that's just what I heard. I heard, at auctions, cars can be found very often at way back of wholesale value. Hondas are hard to get below wholesale, but you can find one at wholesale if you look hard enough.

My dad runs a small business. I'm not trying to be arrogant. I have no reason to be! We're not really sucessful. If we were I wouldn't care what I sell my car for. I'm just trying to explain my situation, specifically how I could sell my car later if I had to and how I knew where to find a GS-R (maybe) for a cheap price.

"5) We understand you paid 10k for your RS. Whether or not that was a wise decision at the time, who knows. But what I can tell you is you got ripped. No one ever pays retail for a car like an integra. You are trying to walk out of here with what you paid for, plus 500." I didn't pay retail (which was about $12,000 at the time, I believe), I paid wholesale. Yes, I'm trying to make money off my car. What's wrong with that? If someone wants it, that's great. If not, I don't sell. Supply and demand. I have supply, if there's no demand, my price comes down. I've always believed starting high and working my way down is the way to go. Then you get the most out of it. Am I an ******* for that?

Look, my whole point of replying is not to argue. I really don't want to. I don't want to make enemies with a bunch of people I don't know. Look, I'm sorry if I came off as being argumentative before. That was a mistake. I'm sorry if you think I'm being arrogant because I don't think I have anything to be arrogant about. I have some connections. Big deal. Everyone does.

I appreciate selling advice like what Lildrgn said. Truely. And saying, "Hey, 10,500's way too much, you'll never sell for that," okay. True. But saying, "You hacked up your car and it must be a totalled wreck..." C'mon... I mean, is that really necessary? Yes, my reply saying "I'd have to be an idiot..." and all that was quite argumenative, and that was my gut reaction and a mistake. There's no reason to argue about this.

I'll sell my car eventually, for... whatever. I'm very happy with what I paid for my car. It was very clean and sure the sunroof never opened (the motor just needs to be fixed) but it was professionally installed and didn't look bad. But I've never heard getting a car for a little over wholesale was getting "ripped through the *******."

<whew> So can we all just stop arguing about this? My price is too high. I know that. I've said it from the beginning. But I don't want to argue about this.

Like someone once said, "Can't we all just get along?"

You guys have made your point. It's a valid one: I'll never get $10,500 for my car. I tried to defend myself and only made things worse. Whether you think I'm just being a ***** for not arguing with you, that's fine. If you think that my car is a POS, that's fine. If the thing got totalled before I got it, it'd be news to me 'cause it runs great and I'd be shocked if a dealer would pull that sort of thing, especially one that makes as much money as the one I bought it from.

Okay? So can we all just move on now? How about the old turbo vs. supercharger debate?
