Default Buying a car to re-sell as a rolling shell? What's the process?

There's this broken down civic hatch in someone's back yard near where I live.

It is in superb condition and I want to go buy it from the guy who owns it, and fix it up to sell as a rolling shell.

My only questions were, what's the process of doing this? I mean if he doesn't have the title or something like that.

I'm a noob with all this registration and legality stuff. What needs to be done before it will sell for a decent price?

-Thanx!

Fixing it up = making it a rolling shell

Fix the issues the car has and sell it as a complete running car, which in turn makes the car more desirable to the general public.

It's a dual point, shitty motor that doesn't run. Not worth it. I'm just gonna rip the motor out and clean the hell out of the car and fix any suspension or brake problems it might have. If any...

Then advertise it to my fellow EF'ers on H-T for slightly more than what I payed. That way, I make a little money and someone on H-T gets a cheap car that they don't have to worry about paying more for a motor that they are just gonna swap anyway.

So legally, what's the process? Do I have to get a title? Do I have to get it registered? I mean I'm not gonna keep it so I don't wanna own it and pay insurance or anything ridiculous like that.

It depends on your state, maybe local guys could chime in.

Seriously you might want to rethink you plan IMO, ripping out the motor, cleaning, fixing the brakes and suspension cost your labor and time and money. You might not make any money if your time is worth anything.

Your best bet for max profit is to buy another shitty D15 and just get it driving/running again or sell the car as a whole, or forget it.

Rollers do not appeal to very many people looking for a car, unless they are on this board maybe.

BTWI just sold a EE 89 wagon on the boards, but I should have just kept my money in my wallet fixing the little nagging issues and dumped it locally instead of trying to appeal to a small market.

You may be right. But it seems so sad to let it die! I know someone can use it. I may just go ask if I can rip a bunch of parts off of it and call it a day.

I have a 91 std. so I figured I'd snag the pass. mirror.

Here's what i'm thinking:

-Pass mirror
-Rear wiper assy. and motor
-Steering wheel
-Cluster if it has a tach and isn't auto.
-E-brake assy and/or center console.
-Climate control assy.
-Glovebox assy.
-Tails and headlights if they're clean enuf. (put the center red portion on mine.)
-Vents
-door-cards if they're clean
-dome light
-clock if it has it

Anything else that may be under the hood or susp. wise you'd take?

the complete interior would sell well, people need LCA's, UCA's, radius rods, crossmember, glass, its not hard to part out an ef, stock exhaust, all that stuff will sell really really good

In VA i think u do have to get it registered for legal purposes ( to finalize sale and what not )but u dont need it insured especailly if it isnt going to be driven
