Default Why Fiber Images closed down...

(updated with pics on page 5...)

Here is my first hand account on why Fiber Images closed down...

I ordered a del Sol hood from them 3 weeks before I left for Vegas Invasion VI, that puts us in about March/April timeframe wise. I wanted a Fiber Images hood to match my Fiber Images trunk, plus I also wanted no wiper holes and no rolled edges or any of that extra "make my lightweight hood heavy" crap on it.

I spoke to Will, who assured me this hood was in stock and ready to ship out, and I would have my hood in 3 business days. Gave him my credit card number, paid for hood + shipping, apx $560.

I tell him it's important to me to have it to match my trunk for Vegas, and because it's a del Sol meet, it means future business for them if they take care of me, because the del Sol community often lacks specific aftermarket support for quality replacement body panels. I say there will be some magazine photo opportunies and lots of exposure if he takes care of me.

Will tells me something to the effect of "we hear that all the time, I don't believe you're really anyone important." Wow, knobshine... Not sure that was necessary, but whatever... As long as I get my hood, we're good.

5 business days (and 1 weekend) pass, and still no hood.

I call Will, and leave a message wondering where my hood is. He returns my call one day later on day 6. He tells me their del Sol hood mold is bad and the hood they just laid out has bubbles in the gelcoat. He tells me they are going to try to fix the mold and get me a new hood ASAP.

I remind him he previously told me he had the hood in stock, and that I shouldn't be waiting at all for anything. He says he did not know they were out of stock, and they would rush to get me a hood before I leave for Vegas.

Cool, I say, and appreciate him trying to fix the mold, since most companies would say screw it and refund my money.

Apx 1 more week goes by, with nothing. I call Will, no answer, no call back.

Apx 4 more days go by, I leave a message for Will in the morning. He calls me back the next afternoon, saying they are still working on the mold. I ask him what they are doing with the hood they said previously had bubbles in the gelcoat, he said they will probably just throw it away.

I ask if they're just going to toss it, if it's paintable, and if I could buy it for a reduced rate. He talks to the owner who agrees to only charge me shipping for it, provided I never tell anyone that this hood is a Fiber Images hood, because of the poor quality of the gelcoat. Wow, not a horrible deal.

No hood shows up and I'm off to Vegas.

(Insert Vegas Invasion here...)

I get back, 1 week later, and the poor quality hood has arrived. Open it up, and it looks alright, not too horrible but still noticable. Fits alright, not perfect but good enough for the $160 I paid for it to get shipped there.

So I've now got $710 laid down on what should be 2 carbon fiber hoods from Fiber Images.

I called and called and called Will, and eventually, he actually slipped up and answered. This was around 3 weeks ago. Get this...

He says they are still working on the mold.

Liar. I ask him to give me my money back for the hood he owes me that I'll never see, he tells me to ship the poor quality hood back to him my cost and he'll refund my money for the full priced hood.

WHAT?

You want ME to pay a total of $360 to escort a hood back AND forth for some shitty hood to get shipped back to you? When YOU'RE the company that has totally failed to provide me the bare minimum of support that could be expected?!

Give me a break. I tell him I'll dispute the charge on my card, he tells me, get this... If I do he'll send thugs out to Wisconsin to take the hood from me...

Wow, what a fantastic business you run pal. Seriously, for real. Who does that ****? I've yet to dispute the charge, but am thinking I couldn't anyway since it was so long ago.

Basically, I think I'm just screwed.. Weeee...

So, incase anyone is wondering why Fiber Images isn't around anymore, this may just be the reason why...

Anyone else have any horror stories with Fiber Images?

Can't afford a gun until I dispute the charge. By the time the waiting period is over, they've already thugged me.

Kind of the point of this topic. To see if anyone else got screwed, and to get some solid ideas on what action to take, if any?

Hmm.. Guess I'll have to do some more research. Everything I've heard rumored is that they're closed down, and their phone numbers don't work anymore.

Problem is, I've already harassed Will enough times, where I know privately trying to mumble into someone's ear isn't going to yield any results in my favor.

I just jacked that topic over here, can't wait for the flame wars and bashings to begin. Someone of course will defend Fiber Images and say that my complaint is unjustified, then someone will get 50 people in here to try and disprove my credability, then I'll just get exhausted of fighting a battle that's going no where and give up..

Isn't that how ALL of these types of topics end anyhow?

If this would have happened to me 10 years ago, I would have. I'm too old to care anymore. I'd rather know I gave it my best and try to be honorable and know I was the bigger man at some point, than sit and whine and e-fight about it all.

I just really don't want anyone else to get taken advantage of like I did.

it has taken us a while to get this mold going but its an order of 15 hoods, at 475 a piece thats approx $7125

2 of them are going to HASport directly, from what I'm told.

1 is going to Guam, another to Irleand.

I'm sorry your having issues, I really am. But there wasn't a need to jack.

The people I represent in that thread will not be taken advantage of.

Your experience and mine are two sides of a coin that everyone should be able to see.

I appreciate your apology, but the need to keep everyone in the loop is there. Very honorable of you to defend them and maintain loyalty, however I ask you understand my position of complete abandonment also could very well be the feelings of others.

Maybe I'm the minority, and this is an isolated incident. If so, Fiber Images has had nearly 6 months to try and appease my anger and disatisfaction. It isn't like I've been off the radar here.

I, do sincerely apologize for the joining of the these two topics, but I think it's necessary to avoid anyone else potentially being involved in a transaction as potentially negative as mine.

There was no need to jack? Come on this man has been jerked around long enough, your prices are not low enough to justify getting jerked around for large periods of time like this.

Had it been a pos $300 "Genesis" hood, you could expect it. But I thought the company you represent was a bit more reputable hence the value of an extra hundred or two.

that's too much for a college student to read, so i'll just ask, did they really shut down?

I ordered mine five years ago from a dealer (forget his name), and it took well over a month and a half to get to me

i was pissed, plus the edge of the hood was cracked
