should i run a rear gsr disC conversioN on my 92 hatcH?
i have a 92 hatch that iam puttin an h22 in it...i have the wilwood big brake up grade on the front..runnin 17"subzero's...should i need more stopping power...or just keep the stock drums in the back which will be a weight reductioN if i dont put the disc on the back?
80% of the braking on a FWD car is from the front brakes, IMO its a waste of money...just get some good quality shoes...
yes, **** rear disk breaks, they are just a pain in the ***
car is now down 2 months and counting because I did a rear disk conversion and I keep getting shity parts
having rear disc brakes helps alot especially under hard braking.
it allows the car to have "some" balance instead of diving hard.
it is a must when u have a swap.
if u have more horsepower you will need more braking power to stop

i wouldn't worry about the rear disks... they don't do too much. maybe get a set of Brembo crossdrilled rotors and a good set of pads and you'd be alright.

I would do it just to feel safer when driving. There's a reason why top end sports cars have rear disks. Why would Honda put rear disks on GSR's and TypeR's if drums are sufficient? Drums
You could always use the wall to stop.

Just to let you guys know, drums break actually have more locking power than disk brakes. This is why many cars even if they are equipped with rear disk brakes have an inboard small little drum brake for the parking brake. The only thing about drum brakes is that they are heavier than disk brakes and most importantly, they fade a lot easier than disks, (exactly the reason why sports cars have em and not drums) If all that you are going to be doing is drag racing, you really dont have to be worrying about your drum brakes fading so its not worth changing them at all. If you do plan on doing a lot of road racing, autocrossing, or just plain old canyon carving, then you might want to think about changing those drums out for a set of disks. just my 2 cents
Oh one more thing, if you only have the big brake kit in the front, you better get a wilwood proportioning valve for the front. If you dont your front brakes will lock up your front wheels waaay before your rear and your braking distance can actually be worse.

i'd rather have rear disc brakes cause i daily drive.
driving on the highway 70mph and needing to stop really fast
drums ain't gonna cut it.

I have a 97 cx hatch with front and rear teg conversion... thats it proportioning is all f*u#d up, does anyone make an adjustable prop valve exm. the kind that they use in sports car gt series???
does anyone have any info on an adjusable proportioning valve... my car locks up the front like like Delta Burk is sitting on my hood... please give me some info
Okay, a rear disc conversion is much better looking than any drums, although it might be a pain to get right, it's an important addition. If you're looking for straight line speed and nothing else, hell just take all the pads out! The only significant addition I could imagine is if you got a 4-wheel abs conversion, and that would be much harder. 4-wheel abs + b18c5 + LSD = very fun car. A civic is a grocery getter mind you, that's why the aftermarket is so huge for it.
If you can get a hold of the rear discs pretty cheap, go for it, but if you'd rather just go fast, do that. It's up to you man, a bunch of know-it-alls on the internet can only give you their opinion, not yours.

you guys are fockin hilarious!
drag racing ---> no need to go with rear discs. in fact, buy a rear drag race only wilwood setup from fastbrakes if your money is burning a hole in your pocket!
road racing / track schools ---> you will appreciate the fade resistance of rear discs so I suggest you get them if this racing is your deal. I
mine!
autocross ---> I dont think you need rear discs unless your car's over 2400Lbs. there are a lot of crx's and eg's running incredible times at autocross with rear drums. you dont run into fade until your run is over, so no need to swap in discs. onheavier cars it might be hard to avoid brake fade even on a short course if the cornering demands enough braking.
thats my 2 cents

I just got a gsr front suspension: control arms, spindle, calipers,. I am going to swap over to get a bigger front disc in the front. I am going to think about the rears after I do the conversion. I bought new discs and pads to install onto it.
it is a must when u have a swap.
that's ****** bullshit. disc conversions are a waste of money. they're simply not necessary.

while it is not MUST when you have a swap....to say they are a waste of money is completely ignorant.

Look On Point EK, I'm sure you're pissed about getting whack parts for your conversion, but just because you have had trouble out of doing your conversion doesn't mean that 4-wheel discs suck.
I'm sure if rear drums were so great that the best sports cars would have drums, right?
There's a reason you'll never see rear drums on any Acura, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Ferrari, etc.

I can usually laugh along with your flaming On Point, but this time you're just spewing because you're pissed about your parts mishaps and NOT about the performance of the rear discs.

Ha. To say rear discs are a waste of money is like saying an Alpine deck is a waste of money. Both the rear drums and stock stereo serve their purpose. You could easily live with what the car came with, but unfortunately we all have this glitch to become bigger and badder. Don't bag on others because they want to do something.
