Exhaust longevity?
Simple question:
Just curious, but how many years would your average catback exhaust (stainless/non-stainless) last in a salt free environment? Specifically, I've been looking into a used 5Zigen exhaust that's a few years old (as in 3+?).
Should I just bite the bullet and go with brand new?
Thanks in advance!

Exhausts face rust issues not only from the external environment, but also from within. Water is a byproduct of combustion...meaning the exhaust can also rust from the inside out. This effects the muffler most often, where the water vapor condenses.
It's difficult to put a lifespan on any exhaust because there are so many factors that can contribute to its failure. A 3 year old system isn't ancient by anymeans, but no exhaust will last forever. If the exhaust is cheap enough, there shouldn't be any problem. I wouldn't pay more than $100--150 for it though. It's just used pipe.
