How much money are u guys spending MAINTAINING your prelude
I'm gettin really sick of this. My car goes into the shop at least once every 2-3 months. this **** isnt funny anymore. i know that people say hondas are reliable and all that junk, but wtf is wrong with mine. its an 01, and in the past 1.5 years, i've been stranded on the side of the road about 7 times getting towed, and i have spent enough just maintaining my prelude to go buy another beater car. 3rd tranny, 3rd set of axles, i've had to replace the intermediate shaft, had the crank seal walk out on me, clutch and flywheel both crack, oil pan crack, motor mounts rip, 2 alternators go out, vss **** out on me, and now my motor just died while driving for some reason, in additions to the timing belt, water pump, new brakes, and other tunes up items that i had to pay for. is anyone else experiencing A LOT of problems once their lude(s) hit high mileage? (120k). i seriously think im about to just throw this ****** car away. i dont even want to bother sellin it or anything, because the mechanic just called me and said my ****** compression is 110, 30, 70 ,80. holy ****** ****.
I know how you feel. I don't know why I kept going back to Preludes. There's probably 10 other car out there that I can think of right now thats better. I just spent $600 for a timing belt job on the car not so long ago. Another $500 is coming up soon for the clutch and flywheel. But all these things are done for preventive maintenance only. Nothing bad has happen to me, yet. Maybe all those maintenance is worth it?
seriously if you're having that much trouble with any car, you may need to take a look in the mirror for the solution
I don't know what you guys do to your cars that makes them hate you so much.
I have owned a prelude for the past 4 years, and the ONLY time I have ever had to fix anything that went wrong was when the oil cooler coolant hoses melted on the block for some reason and I replaced them....
Since then nothing, just routine maintenance....you guys probably just bought crappy cars without checking them out enough....

Good lord, my 95 has almost 180k on it and as soon as I stopped driving like a dumb kid and did maintenance I stopped having problems. The only problem I've had in the last 2 years was an o-ring that I had to replace because it leaked oil.
Who owned this car before you???

well for the trannys, clutch, axles, and alternators i did it with my boy who works at honda as a tech. the other stuff i did with my family mechanic who we've been going to a long time and is a good mechanic. the reason its split is because half the time it breaks down when im at school and half the time it breaks down when im at home (2 hours away)
either way the news of my compression is seriously making me consider junking/donating this car.

120k on an '01 ALREADY ? Maybe that's your problem
That's doubling the high average mileage each year.
Mine's a '97 with 89k. Replaced brakes/rotors/clutch 6 months ago, and just had my 90k service. Mainly all scheduled service.

I was startin to get nervous when i read the original post (fairly new lude owner) then was re-assured by all of the other posts haha.
95 vtec here no problems so far other then the heater - blower motor (though i'v only owned it for 2 months.

i have 280k on the clock...
well on my old clock...now i have EL gauges
i would start investing in tools and learn how to fix things if i were you...because i think whoever you're taking it to sucks at fixing stuff

9 times out of 10 it is not the car, but the operator. Seriously, what have you been doing? No way you should go through that many tranny's and clutchs, and axles in 5 years. I dont believe you are telling the turth on how u treat your lude...
I am hard on mine sometimes, but not all the time. I am hoping it will all just grow out of me. I try to keep it out of vtec, and just drive normal.
I think you need to take a look in the mirror, and you will see your problem. it is you

I've put 80k on mine since buying it, and I've probably invested under 1000$ in maintenance. That includes a new radiator, new tires, and timing belt change. Have never been stranded, but came close once when the oil cooler o-ring broke.
lol. everyone here thinks im some negligent driver. how am i not tellin the truth about how i treat my lude. i never said anything. i beat the **** out of it for 3 years. then i stopped. but the problems didnt. i seriously drive my car like a little bitch now, for the past year or two, but problems still come up. i figured if everything got replaced it would be ok again. but that doesnt seem to be the case
EDIT: since some of u might not believe me, i returned it to stock and stopped beatin on it when i got a bike. so i got my adrenaline fix.

I still have fun in it. The vtec is there when I need it or want it. just b/c you have something doesnt mean u have to use it. I knoow boosted guys who stay out of boost b/c they dont want to beat on their car.
