Bitch.
In my defence it was a mere cell phone and I was more interested in getting to know a $500K engine than taking pics for you
Oh and there was steaming water as it had just been run, that doesn't help either.

Anyway JMU is the smart one and yes it was the GSV-R990 and boy was it trick.

Brembo monoblocks (obviously) but unlike any I have worked on. Manufactued from aluminium composite and at Brands running the smaller discs than that at Motegi where the bike was flown in from. So starting from the front we have wheel speed sensor then to the rear of that infared temperature sensor. The mudguard is also pretty clever. In front of the caliper you can see the catch which releases it. Two titanium pins locate it at the front so to change flip two catches and off it comes. Telemetry is covered up underneath.

Huge through headstock intake tract, ohlins unobtainium gas forks, main twin core rad and oil cooler underneath. Tank cover lifts to reveal the carbon trumpets and injectors. This shows pretty clearly how the mass of the bike has been optimised.

Where do I start with the dash? This is in diagnostic mode (as soon as the fr wheel moves it reverts to riders view) Brake pressure front rear, fuel pressure, water and oil temp, thottle position, ignition map setting, disc temps, rpm and gear position on the top along with the shiftlights and warning light on the left hand side. Cost....lots.
Then you need a nut to hold the handlebars

Very cool guy, no airs and graces and willing to chat to people like me who ask all sorts of dumb questions.
Saturday he ran it round and whilst the bike was being warmed up the team boss was sayimg 'just take it easy, no silly stuff bring it back safely ok'. 'Hopper' was just sat there legs tapping away getting his head on. Anyway it was damp out there and he tools it round then onto the back straight stands on the pegs and revs through three gears down the back straight. Team boss looks at me and I am laughing like a drain, he shakes his head, smirks then walks back off to the garage. Anyway Hopper caught the kerb out of Graham Hill bend and on the gas snapped the back out then drifted it onto the back, in short he was having fun! Back in the garage later on I asked him what he thought of Brands, he said 'Its a cool track and I am enjoying it, cant wait to try it in the dry with the right gearbox' I mentioned the kerb incident 'yeah that was great got all loose on me, not sure these guys in here enjoyed it as much as I did'
The next day it was wet again and he still went out even though he didn't really have to. More of the same and some pretty fierce pace looking at the laptimes. They still had the Motegi box so it was short everywhere and bouncing off the limiter but I was told that they have the settigns now and are planning to test there with the correct set-up. Noise, well 124db is loud enough thanks very much. The motor revs violently, quite a smooth quiet idle but instant pickup and the noise is just unreal, especially in a garage space more like an unsilenced plane than a motorcycle.
Anyway enough of the Suzuki, back to proer bikes
KRP had already won the title and were looking to tie up second place for 'Westy' and had a shot at also winning the ACU cup with Ant Rogers. Lots of pressure this weekend as we had a young lad from the Superteens as a try out and 'Speedo' in a finale race, therefore six bikes!
Practice went ok some minor stuff to sort out and a crash from the young rider. All repaired out for qualifying and Westy set the pace breaking his own lap record then ont he next lap was underneath it again when the front tucked and he went down. The young kid crashed again this time breaking his nose. The bikes where a bit unhappy looking, all the work the night before bolloxed.

The race was wet, very wet and a delayed start made for chaos as the bikes were cold and riders soaked due to the **** poor organization. Westy started from pole but had a poor start. He ended up 7th. Cooper won it which finshed his domination of the field this year on a high note. ANt was back in 10th and struggling for pace, he needed to beat another guy about 4 places ahead, fotune favoured and the guy lobbed it pushing too hard, all Ant had to do was finish to take the ACU cup. We lost two bikes with technical issues but not a bad days work.....
1st and 2nd in the BSB 125GP Championship
ACU Cup winners
Most poles in the season
Highest percentage of speedtrap results
So there you have it, we came, we saw and we won everything.

They all use similar dash design although the software/hardware varies. Haven't seen the M1 dash up close, its difficult to get access like this unless you know the team chief or rider. I am betting that the Ducati dash is somewhat different and is very Ferrari orientated

How long does it take to get a bike like that together?
Do you build them from the ground up? or how does a team go about building a bike?

There's an article in this month's Bike(UK) magazine that says the Repsol team carries enough spares to build a half dozen bikes. They can construct a full RC211V from parts in 4 hours

That was the prototype bike no? If so I would bet that it was the previous years kit?
Its not all to waste, the Wheels/Brembo's/some of the shock and forks goto winter testing. Its just everythng else thats scrap, all of the engine with the new regs is redundant. Its amazing how much is machined from billet rather than a casting. I dont remember HRC having this much?

Hmm 4hrs is that what they said is it lol.
I would say 4 hours would be ok with all new parts and a completed motor, as I have never had the opportunity to build one from scratch I am taking a shot in the dark. However its still a bike and murderously amazing though it is the basic elements are the same as any race bike. It would be impossible to construct the entire engine with the care necesary in that time IMO when a head job takes 2-3hrs or so. But then they did say to build not running
Don't forget that a factory team has race support and people like Ohlins at their beck and call to help out.

do the bsb regs change each season?</TD></TR></TABLE>
In the 125's things are pretty good. I mean there's not that much they can do as it is a GP bike rather than a converted road bike which everything else is, and why I dont really pay much attention to them. Each class has restrictions apart from the superbikes where its factory fantastic and the 125's where you make whatever you can using whatever you can think of. It is a question of innovating rather than getting a factory spec engine delivered to you and fitting it. Then you dont have the luxury of engine fuel maps as you have a carb to set up. Yep two strokes are where its at for me proper bikes with tuners tweaks rather than factories yen.
Look at MotoGP, factories have already got the 800's going well as they are lighter and handle better. I am betting that in a few more years we are going to have things that are very similar in size to the great 500 era.
