Default '93 Accord Power Issue

I've got a '93 Accord and about a week ago my battery light came, but appeared to have no real issues with the car. A few days later I lost power (engine began to sputter and lose electrical power) and I shut down and stopped. I waited a few minutes then tried to start my car, and had weak starting power and all the instrument lights were dimming, after a few cranks, I lost all power completely. I then replaced my battery and it seemed to fix the problem, but only for a few days. After two days of a new battery, the light came back on and I had the same thing, loss of power and engine failure. I can jump start the car and it runs, but then cuts out soon after. I have been told to start with replacing the battery cables first. But I figured maybe someone here can shed some more light on what may be going on... My current cables (which I believe are aftermarket, due to the size) are gauge 2 I think, which seems like a little much.. Is that normal or is a 4 gauge cable stock for my car, I know 4 is most common.. So any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated, I'm stranded! Thanks!

Actually, it does sound exactly like the alternator, or the battery not getting recharged while driving. Test the alternator by measuring the voltage at the battery while the engine is running. It should be higher than the battery voltage at rest. Do NOT disconnect the battery while the engine is running to test the alternator output. While this may have been OK to do on '68 Chevy, it might cause a voltage spike and fry some expensive little elctronic gizmo on your car.
