Default Whats the best route to take with my prelude?

Guys

I do alot of buying/selling of cars, mostly to just make some extra cash to spend on my Z. My latest adventure has brought me into the prelude world. Here's what I have on my plate currently.

I found a local kid who'm I'd consider not very intelligent. He has a 1993 Prelude Si (not sure on chassis miles). He toasted the bearings on his H23, yanked the motor on the car, and its been sitting for about a year now.

During that period, he ordered an H22A (unsure where) To this day its still sitting on the pallet. It came with a complete JDM harness (not sure if that even helps me) He claims he has a skunk2 ECU that goes with it (started saying 9800rpm redline-figured he was full of crap)

Anyways, I am almost positive im going to pick the rolling chassis, trans, h22a and a handful of h23 stock parts up all for 1700. The car is going to need a clutch (i will buy a stock one) and the car is going to need a cat (or test pipe) and a cat-back section (will try to find stock)

I have a few options with this car when I get it, and i was wondering what everyonet thought is the most cost-effective option.

Option 1

Purchase the car, motor, trans spare parts for 1700. I install the H22a in the car, put a few hundred in maintenece parts (t-belt, water pump, clutch exhaust, axles, etc) and get it running correctly. I would then sell it out-right, as well as the extra parts(in this case - what does a H22A Prelude go for?)

Option 2

Purchase the car, motor, trans, spare parts for 1700. Purchase a used H23 from my friend for 400. I would then take the car back to completely stock, including installing the H23 in the car. It would just be a regular H23 Prelude Si at this poitn (what do they normally sell for in 'OK' shape?) I would then just sell the H22A as a swap, as well as the extra parts I had left over. I would still need to install a new t-belt, water pump, maybe axles, exhaust, and clutch

All in all, what way do you guys think is going to produce more cash for me?

Thanks

I think I'd probably put the H23 in the car and sell it, and then sell the H22 engine seperately as in option 2. I believe Honda sold more Si Preludes than VTEC Preludes anyway...check on ebay and you can see what H22s are going for.

The bonus to option two is that i would see an immediate return on selling the H22 (my guess is that it would take a week to sell at most, especially on ebay) that way i could afford to sit on the car (car sales term) for a little while and not worry about being short on cash

Since you dont have any paperwork on the motor, I would go ahead and put it in. When I bought mine, I did alot of research to find out where it came from and what that companies rep was. Most people are going to do the same thing. If you try to sell it, and you put that you dont know the mileage or the origin, its not going to sell for very much... or you could just lie like everyone else on ebay and say it has 35-40k on it. That said, I'm pretty sure you'll get around 800- 900 for the motor alone, shipped.

^^ Man you have no clue. You can easily get $1000 for a jdm H22 if you check it over thoroughly so you know it has no problems. Mileage is actually irrelevant it is the Condition of the engine that matters most.

My presumption was if he was honest. So if he said in the auction that he had a JDM H22A that he got from some dumb kid, he's not sure of the mileage or the condition and it hasn't been compression tested, then he wouldn't get that much from it. Especialy if none of his feedback was from selling motors. Have any more clue's for me?

^^ Ok understandable, but why sell it under those circumstances? It fairly easy to check it all out and find out it condition, especially for someone who does this type of work.

True

I actually planned on seeing if he would let me hook the tranny/starter up to the motor before i bought it all, just so i could do a compression test
