Default 2.0L All Motor ITR; Finally Complete

2.0L ITR All Motor Project: Finally Complete

Here are a couple of photos of some bottom end components in 2.0L B18C5; plus a little background info...

The new block was sent to RS Machine for the 2.0L sleeve. The pistons are Arias custom forged 12.5:1 (Dennis designed the domes for these pistons). When we received the pistons from Arias, they went to HPC coatings in Chandler, AZ for thermal barrier coating on the domes, and anti-friction coatings on the piston skirts. The rods are from Crower, and the stud kits for the head and block are from ARP.

Here's a couple pics of the completed bottom end...

I sourced and purchased 90% of the parts that went into this engine. This way I can save Dennis allot of time, plus be certain I have obtained the best parts that are genuine.

The completed cylinder head...

The combustion chambers were opened up to match the 85mm bore, and the shrouds were removed from the valve pockets. This is the end result:

The custom DTR-FAB stainless steel header:

This is the RPM Service 72-70mm tapered throttle body we used.

Recap of the Engine Build Components:

Engine/Transaxle

New B18C5 short block (minus rods and pistons) sleeved to 2.0L (85mm x 87.2mm) by RS Machine
Entire rotating assembly balanced. (9,000+ rpm)
ARP engine stud kit; ARP head stud kit
Arias custom forged pistons; 12.5:1 (coated by HPC; piston tops and skirts)
Ferrea polished stainless steel competition valves
Crower rods
JUN III cams and valve springs
Toda Cam gears
Supertech Ti retainers
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
AEM FPR
B&M FP Gauge
RC 440cc injectors
RPM Service 72-70mm throttle body
DTR-FAB custom header
Mugen baffled oil pan
FAL racing fans
Koyo aluminum racing radiator
Samco silicone hoses
Mugen cooling system package
Toda high-power clutch/light-weight flywheel
JDM Honda 4.7 final drive
Extrude Hone/port matched intake manifold
Hondata S300; thermal barrier intake manifold gasket
Comptech Icebox intake
Vi-Tek racing ignition wires
Work done by LDL:
port/polish; open up combustion chamber to match 85mm bore; de-shroud valve pockets; flow bench; 3 angle valve job; bronze guides; balance crankshaft and micro-polish journals; balance entire rotating assy.
LDL Custom 3.00” Burns Stainless exhaust w/ 3” Thermal Research muffler
Energy Suspension motor mount inserts and shift linkage bushings.
Spoon Magnetic drain bolt set

Dyno tuning results:

The tuning was done on the Mustang Sport Compact Dynamometer at LDL Speed Shop.

The car was tuned for road course use. This involves maximum development of midrange power, while maintaining as much high-end sustainable HP as possible (100 octane).

234.7 WHP @ 8294 rpm

157.3 Torque @ 6048 rpm

Dennis spent hours producing the Torque/HP curves shown on this graph. It took many different combinations of cam/ignition timing/fuel map adjustments to achieve this. The linear torque, combined with the steadily ascending HP with no dips represents a significant effort on Dennis' part.

Technical mumbo-jumbo aside; the car runs like a bat-out-of-hell... just like an all out all motor car should!

Here's a short video of one of the Dyno Runs:

Many thanks to Dennis (and Marissa) for their tireless pursuit of perfection…

That's interesting to know. I've never had a chance to get on a DynoJet.

I don't really know; I have a stack of receipts three or four inches high. I'm not sure I want to add them up!

That's a custom header, built specifically for this motor and its intended use. A custom header is the only way to go with a motor like this.

Dennis spent hours achieving that.

85mm x 87.2mm sleeve, done by RS Machine: $900.

Crower rods: $700.

Custom Arias forged pistons: $650.

I knew these off the top of my head. I would have to check my receipts on things like piston rings, white metal bearings and other machine work like precision balancing rods, pistons, and crank; micro polishing the crank, etc. Then there is balancing the entire rotating assembly... and the list goes on. It all depends on how far you want to go with your build.

In for this one. I'm planning on building a 2.0 ITR when I get back from deployment.
