Oil in spark plug area, bad valve cover gasket?
Today I was changing the plugs in my hatch and I noticed some oil on one of the spark plugs. Could this be a bad o-ring/valve cover gasket? Or do I have a larger problem on my hands? It smokes for a couple of seconds when I crank it then it quits. Any help will be appreciated guys.
it sounds like your valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals are leaking, though your valve seal issues are unrelated to the oil on the spark plug..i would replace my pcv valve and see if it stops, generally the valve is closed and this causes pressure to build making the seals leak, check the pcv valve
Thanks for the help, I'll hit up the parts store in the morning and hopefully have this solved sometime tomorrow.
there are two areas that oil can get inthere.. the valve cover gasket for the spark plug tubes or theres a gasket for the bottomof the tube that can go.
