Default Home made ice box.......

This is my and CKDC2's design. All made for less than $50.00
The piping is a full 4" dia. ABS with a 4" air horn. This is flexable enough to make a perfect connection to the factory hole in the bottom of the airbox. The 4" air horn is from a local speaker shop made for a subwoofer port. The K & N filter connects to the neck of the factory tube after grinding off the factory filter. It all fits perfect "OEM" with the factory airbox and fenderliner.

We decided to go a full 4" dia to insure that the airbox will not be starved for air (especially on my S.C. car).

That's a nice and clean job. How's the throttle response?

It's much better for me being supercharged. I had a GSR AEM CAI which is only 2.5 id and I think it was a major cork in my setup.....

My set up looks identical to BHSCGSR's with the exception of the filter. Because my car is N/A I went with the comptech drop in filter with air horn.
In my situation quality of airflow from airbox/filter to TB is important. On a supercharged car quantity is what is needed.

So my set-up consist of the 4" air horn behind bumper, same 4" tubing to 4" oblong opening in factory airbox (removed rubber grommet) then comptech drop in with built in air horn.

This set up replaced my AEM CAI. Results.... Very significant difference! More torque, no felt loss in high rpm range (actually wanted to rev more freely) Allot quieter than AEM, no chance of sucking up water, factory fitment and big enough feed tube to make sure I can't starve the intake box no matter what my future mods may be. Throttle responce much improved as well.

i would not recommend using PVC for a intake pipe. pvc can melt and cause toxic fumes..

PVC will not melt under the temps they are subjecting them to. Plus I do believe he said the material was ABS.

This is very similar to Bret Q's design. (BSQ)

Sound like you guys went for 1" more diameter. His is slightly cheaper.

Here is a question. ANyone tested quantity of air vs velocity of air? 4" will slow down the Ait while 3" will provide less air.

Only the feed tube is 4" then it dumps into the air box where it will lose most of it's velocity.

Think of a garden hose with a 2 liter bottle attached inline. What happens to the water flow when it reaches that bottle- it slows down.

What really matters (for N/A) is the QUALITY of flow. That’s why I chose to use the comptech drop in filter in the airbox. It comes with a very nice air horn.

4" tube feeds box, comptech filter and stock rubber arm provide quality and velocity to TB/intake manifold.

Where did you pick up the parts to build this?
I know you put down stereo shop for the port but the other 4" abs piping. Same ?

Looks good but a comptech Icebox can be had for less than $150, cheaper if used. Its resale value is still good and the factory airbox will come in handy when you need to sell the car.

I didn't want a comptech box - It's only 3" vs 4" on ours. I wanted as much air as possible ecpecially on my S.C. car......plus I have read about alot of people complaining about fitment problems with the comptech. We did not alter our factory air boxs at all. Just drop a stock filter back in, unclamp our 4" pipe and hook the factory down pipe back up......$30 for the filter and $20 for the pipes and horn. I'll put the $100.00 savings to something else.......
