* Setup
ITR S80 trans. with LSD
ATS 4.929 final drive
GS-R .787 5th gear
I missed 5th gear tonight, I was running in 2nd gear tonight (My shifter linkage is really loose due to bushing ..ES Bushings on the way) Somehow my dumbass made it in into 5th and grindeded the hell out of it. As soon as this happen in sounded like something flew out of where the inspection plate goes..
The car will go into 5th gear while the car is off, but when you put it in gear while your driving it makes a nasty grinding noise.
I'm also hearing a noise while i'm driving, but all of the other gears are good.. Even reverse
Fucked up synchro?
I have the stock .848 ITR 5th gear.. Also does anyone know the top speed with the ITR 5th gear?

well I gurantee he can't guess fix it if something "flew" out of the car engine part wise (or tranny if u wanna get **** about it).
Drop the tranny, peak inside.

I don't have an inspection plate.
I don't have an inspection plate.
2nd to fifth really shouldn't have hurt it....
The only thing that can fall out of the inspection plate would be your clutch components, flywheel, or starter gear. The rest is all housed inside your tranny, unless you really foobared it and broke the housing.... so likely nothing came out.
I would buy another tranny, and then rebuild that one.

Why would i buy another ITR tranny, if the one i have is fine?
I didn't know money grew on tree's
The tranny i have is fine, All of the other gears are working fine.. It's Specifically 5th gear. I made this thread for people who tear down and rebuild there own trannies so i could maybe know what to expect when i tear it down.

My bad if its fine why are you asking then
What i meant was buy another tranny, a cheap one, not really familiar with the b swaps, but like the d's i'm sure you could get a cheap non itr one and fix yours. I've only rebuilt one tranny, so with that i'm outta this thread

Well D-series **** is a hell of a lot cheaper then B.
You can usually find a b16 tranny non lsd for 800+ shipping so about 1,000 shipped maybe hell i dunno, GSR tranny.. Same price.. I refuse to put a LS tranny on my setup without boost.

a synchro does nothing but match the speed of the gear with the synchro hub. but you can do that manually with double clutching.
basically. if you can double clutch the thing into gear, it's the synchro.
if you get the thing in gear and if it still pops out it's the dog teeth on the 5th gear.
regardless of whatever it is, you're going to have to take the trans off.
if you want, you could drain the trans fluid into like a white/light colored bucket. then we could diagnose from there.
here's the best gearing calcs I can find. I like the f-body one. RWD domestic guys call it the axle ratio, us FWD transaxle guys call it the final drive. Either way plug your final drive ratio into the axle ratio on the f-body calc

What I would do if i were you is just double clutch the thing into 5th for now and prepare to drop the trans and take it apart. It sucks, I know, but I'll be doing the same in a month or two

I haven't tried double clutching it into 5th gear.. But i'm about to
It goes into gear fine when the car is off, start it up and try to put it in gear it's nothing but a grinding noise.. Also while i'm driving the car i hear something moving around or broken.
If i quit driving the car right now.. I won't risk any chance of messing the other gears up, right?
5th gear is on a different shaft than the others, correct?
Thanks

i would just take the trans off and see what's up.
i've spent hours trying to figure out what went wrong. Then I'll just get tired of wondering and I'll just take them apart and see what's up. Everytime this has happened I would have had to take it apart anyways.

take it apart and get pics. look on the bright side. I doubt you messed up the countershaft 5th gear
it happens to the best of us. no worries
it should be an easier fix than installing a 4.9 final drive. 5th gear is rigth on top of the mainshaft
just get some cocaine and knock it out on a saturday

LMAO, This will be the fourth time having this tranny off.. I've broken two pressure plates & I didn't put the ats 4.9 final drive in it. So i've gotta be expecting to replace the 5th syncro?
