Default Whining/spinning sound

i have a 97 civic with a b16a2 swap. lately i've been hearing a high pitched (not really loud though) whining/spinning sound coming from my motor. i thought it was from the tranny but it only makes the sound when i apply gas to the motor, even if it weren't in gear. can anyone heelp me out?

i don't think it's coming from the tranny cause i parked my car, car wasn't in gear, i revved and it made the sound. it would make sense if it's coming from the tranny if i were in gear but i wasn't. sounded like it came from the engine too when i listened under the hood, pressing the throttle.

Try depressing the clutch a little and see what happens. My release bearing is causing mine, which sucks because it only got 600 miles on it. But at least its only a 2 hour job. I also thought my belt (only have alternator) but every thing was good there. Check it out and let us know what you find. GL

is it very hard to replace the input shaft bearing, or easier to change transmissions?

is the input shaft bearing the same as release bearing?

No. The release bearing is with the clutch components. The input shaft bearing is inside the actual tranny, and requires opening it up.

Which is harder, whats your mechanical ability. Its not hard to take things apart Theres a good how to around the internet somewhere. But basicaly the snap ring is the hardest for most. Then just pay attention, cuz you have to get the shafts all back together right, or no shifty. The bearing itself was easy, i did find i had another one that was on its way out, but i think that one was pressed, can't remember though, plus i didn't buy that one, so yeah.

thank you! you have made me decide to just buy one, lol... besides, i'm not to mechanically inclined anyway. always seems to take me twice as long to do anything to my civic than some others.
