Default koni upper shock nut torque...how many threads?

I am installing Koni shocks on my civic, and i need to know how many threads should be showing once the locking nuts at the top are torqued down enough. Koni's instructions are crap, and i am not sure which nut (top or bottom) should be at 22lbs/ft as it says. I've already gone down about 10 threads and the wrench (which is working) hasn't clicked yet. Any ideas?

I torqued them both down at the same time to 22lbs with a deep socket and used some loctite (blue) as well for extra insurance.

If your refering to the top shock tower bolts make sure you torque those babies down good. I would do more than 22ft/lbs. The two little nuts that hold the shock rod in can just be torqued good. They lock on eachother so they shouldnt come loose but make sure you get more than that on the bolts that hold the shock to the body. I thought I torqued them down to the spec and then 2 months later I hear a wired noise up front on a hard turn and pull over sure enough the bolt was loose and about to come off. double check all of bolts.

thanks guys. Although that is now the least of my problems. I was threading the lower mounting bolt of the shock to the lower arm (this is the rear suspen.) but I was doing it through the wrong end (stupid, stupid me); the end with the welded square nut on one side of the fork which then cracked off. i cannot believe i was so stupid. Do you know if i need to weld that back on, or just hold it there with an adjustable wrench while i tighten the bolt? any ideas and jokes would be well appreciated ....

Don't worry about it, mine came off as well. I used a torque wrench and a box end wrench and torqued them down to specs. No problems to date.

I just rechecked all the bolts recently and everything is OK!

After you get those Konis installed you will absolutely love the ride. If you ever need any help I am in the 951 area as well and can lend a helping hand if needed. Just PM me if needed.

Good Luck!
