Default Wierd whinning noise @ belt area

My h23 is making a wierd whinning noise and it seems to be comming from the cam gear/ belt area, not positive. It only makes the noise at idle, and if you even barly tap the throttle it goes away, then of course resumes at idle. The car has 91K miles on it. Is it belt rub? Or something more serious?

LOL. I was going to say is sound like it almost. Pretty faint, yet audible if you are one of those people who pay attention to your car. I was thumbing through my helms... It looks like a b*tch to do, is it really that hard? You need a timing gun right? When you take off that mount, can you jack it from the pan? or is it too weak? 91k mile I guess it's time . Last thing my broke *** needed right now (anger slowly building )

I'd do it. you are suppsed to do the timing belt, water pump, cam seal, crank seal all at 90K. At the stealership it costs like 900 bucks, so you may want to spend the 200 bucks on parts and do it yourself. I'm sure it will be a bitch to do. I don't know how hard it is to replace a crank seal, but just the sound of it makes me wanna throw a wrench through the wall in frustration. Good luck.

Me + frustration= broken, that's why I walk away for a few minutes when irritated escillates. Not gonna pay 900 bones though, you got taken for a ride, might as well buy an H22 if your gonna spend that much. The shops around here range from 280-500 depending on how much you can talk, especially then they hear you say "Nah that's cool, the other dude will do it for less".

To the everything TDS for this little number you have to base it off the piston no. 1 correct?

Bump, can somebody tell me if the oil pan is strong enough to support the motor if a 2x4 is between it and the jack?

yes it is. jack the motor slightly, using a 2x4 like you said, to take the weight off the driver side mount. unbolt mount, i think you have to loosen the other mounts as well. then you can lower the motor with the jack enough to access what you need. definitely get a crank pulley holding tool, unless you have a strong impact gun

I have exactly the same problem, but with my H22 and only when i've run it hard. Its damn annoying and at stop lights, I press the accelerator a bit just to get it at 1000 RPM so it doesn't make the noise.
Oh yeah its all stock. Got timing belt pump etc done before summer, but the mechanic might have done a **** poor job.... gotta get it checked soon

Yea if I keep the gas soft all the time, and don't go past 3,500 it doesn't make any noise for the day. Hmmm dude I wont have to get gas for weeks if I keep driving like this lol.
